I currently don't have anti-virus on my computer, didn't really need it seeing as my computer was not hooked up to the internet.
I've been told in the past that there is a pretty decent anti-virus program that is free (even if it's basic). I really can't afford an anti-virus program but would really like something at least for scanning and deleteing.
Thanks a bunch.

For anti-virus, I use Avast! It needs to be registered, but it's free, and they don't spam at all.
Get it here: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

ZoneLabs also has a free, basic firewall to help protect your computer.
Zone Alarm (http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en&lid=staticcomp_za)
At the bottom of the page select, "I only want basic protection".
I have the Internet Security Suite and I LOVE it. Yes, it's $50 but believe me- it's been money well spent.
You can compare the products and get more info (http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/catalog/products/znalm/comparison.jsp?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en).

Gotta second Avast! It's the best one I've seen for free. The best ever is Kaspersky, but that's hella expensive.

Second vote for AVG.

I've used both AVG and Avast many times. Both are equally good imo.
I like to test out new things, so i've used many many different AV programs. I've recommended both the above even over most others...especially Norton and McAfee. (shudders)

I've been using Avast! for the last year. It works well on any version of Windows and I've had it on 98/ME/XP and now Vista.
No problems so far with OS conflicts. They seem to co-exist quite well.:)
