I may or may not have mentioned this before, but a number of children in my apartment building seem to think that the parking lot is their playground.
These children spent the ENTIRE summer riding their bikes in the parking lot, and have come close to being a dent in a number of bumpers. There have been numerous complaints to the leasing office (I made 3 this week alone!) and a mass memo went out, telling them to cease and desist, or penalties up to and including eviction may be handed down.
On Sunday evening, I had a family emergency that I had to take care of. As I was leaving to go back to work, I was getting ready to back up, when at least 2 of the children came out of nowhere right behind my car. You know, the big heavy vehicle with the BACKUP LIGHTS ON?? It being dusk, I just barely saw them in time to stop, and I WAS keeping an eye out for them.
I parked my car, told one of the sets of parents to keep an eye on his kids, and left.
When I got home last night, one of the mothers (these kids are from 3 different apartments) was waiting for me. I got out of my car, and she started screaming at me and called me a liar, since her kids' bikes have flat tires. Trust me. I know where all these kids live. I had to, so when I called them in, something would be done about it. ::slight scoff:: Anyways, she then told me that I drive like a psycho. I just walked away.
Is this the end of it? Of course not. An hour later, someone comes BANGING on the door. I mean, the door was shaking. This kept on for ten minutes. I didn't answer the door, because I did not want to get into a screaming match. Turns out, they called the police on me...something about a threat complaint.
WTF?!?!
I went to the leasing office first thing this morning to give my side of the story. I've been complaining about this for most of the summer, and most of last winter, when all the kids sled down the hill and across the parking lot (notice the trend?). I told the property manager everything that happened, and she was shocked when I handed her the officer's card. I told her that 1. I would never threaten anyone. and 2. Why would I be so stupid as to threaten someone who knows my car AND knows where I live? Come on.
I called the cops in question to see what this is all about. I had the dry heaves last night and this morning because of this.
Slight update: Just got yet another complex-wide memo about filing grievances. When you have a complaint, call:
1. Property manager. If not satisfied, call:
2. Property supervisor. If not satisfied, call:
3. Property management's main office.
If I had these numbers a few months ago, I bet I'd be up to the main office number by now.
Don't you just love how they are actually doing something about the problem? ::scoff::
