View Full Version : Fired by management via text message

The company defends its actions, saying it's just a sign of the times, and they are keeping up with the younger generation.
(I'm just wondering how this story got so famous so fast. Text messaged links? :p )

Hmm...the staff aren't permitted to text in sick, but they can be sacked via text? Sounds like "keeping up with the younger generation" has its limits as far as they're concerned.

Legally, I'd imagine they're probably within their rights. Personally, that just strikes me as particularly unprofessional.

There was a company over here that did a mass redundancy that way. If memory serves, they lost a whole mass of goodwill from the public and their products stopped selling for a while.

That's how I want to go out. Live by the text, die by the text.

Could be worse, imagine fired via Instant message? How about via carrier pigeon, smoke signals? Management really has become spineless over the years. What ever happened to taking someone to the side and telling them to their face, you know in a respectful/honorable way? Why totally degrade someone like that?
