This year may be a bit different for me . . .

Traditionally, my brother and I go to our Dad's for Thanksgiving Dinner, then we come hom and have a late supper with Mom. Lather, rinse and repeat for Christmas Day . . .

This year, I had planned on dragging the b/f to Dad's, as this will be our first Holiday season together. But we may end up staying here at my house instead.

Seems as if the middle sister may not come in for Thanksgiving this year. She has that day off, but has to work all weekend starting that Friday, so it really wouldn't make much sense for her and her hubby to load up 3 kids in the van on Wed. night after she's done with her shift at the hospital (she's an ER nurse now, just finished school last May) and drive down to Greensboro from Richmond, then turn around and have to drive back on Thursday afternoon.

So, if that's going to be the case, the Dad and stepdrac will probably not cook, but instead go have dinner with stepdrac's mother over at the nursing home.

Christmas, Dad and stepdrac are discussing driving up to Richmond this year, as they've come down here every year (except for one and that was when my sister had just had the middle child, who arrived in early December.)

Even more interesting . . . my b/f isn't quite sure yet how late he'll have to work on Thanksgiving Eve. He's thinking Mike Hunt (the new stupidvisor) may send him and another fellow to run the furthest drops on Wed., which may mean he'll be driving all night and may not get done until around 6 or 7 on Thursday morning. Right now, he's trying to find out for sure so he can try to figure a way out of it.

He was told point blank to just throw a change of clothes in his truck and just come in when he gets done - even if he ends up having to work all night (he can let himself in, as he does have a set of keys to the house.)

He assured me we'd work something out, to which I informed him that he WILL be here.

I have spoken, so it will be.

So, what are your plans for Turkey Day?

Working overnight Wednesday night, sleeping for a few hours, stuffing myself with turkey and other edible goodies, sleeping some more, then going to work overnight to prepare the store for the stampede Friday morning.

This'll be a different Thanksgiving for me, too. Usually, we spend it with family, but they're back in Arizona, and we won't be able to get the time off to go there.

So, I'm going to attempt to cook a small Thanksgiving dinner. As there are only three of us, and two are picky eaters, it's going to be a very simple affair. Small turkey, baked potatoes, corn, and some kind of dessert. Maybe I'll try to make Jester's cranberry recipe.

The only thing that is certain for me is that I'll be watching the Cowboys slap around the Jets for a heavenly 3 hours or so... :D

Other than that, I'll probably be eating turkey a some undisclosed location while being asked the same questions from roughly 10 different people. I'm horrible with faces and names, chances are I won't be able to address anyone by name... except for my cousin Paulett, but that's because she's awesome.

I should bring beer... and my iPod <3... and my cell... and beer.

chops and I are having his parents over at our house for Thanksgiving. I have no clue how to prepare a Thanksgiving turkey, but thankfully his dad is an awesome cook and is going to teach me how to make one. I'm not going to my family's house in New Hampshire, however, since I have to work the next day and I really don't feel like driving all the way down there.

I believe until all's said and done, I'll be eating a TV turkey dinner... and watching the Cowboy get their jocks sent to another state.

Usually we have a big shingding at my brother and sister-in-law's house, but she's laid up with back surgery and unable to put up with a houseload of relatives. Too bad... having few relatives of my own, I'll miss seeing the most eclectic collection of relatives outside of the Addams family.

This year my family is having Thanksgiving Dinner on the Tuesday before. My mom has to work nights the entire weekend starting on Wednesday. Damn You Ameritech knock-off

The rest of the weekend I will be enjoying some freedom from school by basking in the glow of my new 37" LCD HDTV :D

This year I'm wondering the best way to come down with a 'cold' without it looking suspicous. They're only 15 minutes away though so it might not work anyway :(

I plan on running a race in Detroit in the early hours, then when I get home I may just sleep. After that go to my parents, do the Thanksgiving thing, go home, and maybe just go to bed depending on how tired I am from the race.

Maybe it could. Know of anyone who has one? Get them to sneeze on your a few times.

There again, you could claim Anal Glaucoma. You just can't see your ass coming to work that day.

I volunteered to work on Thanksgiving. How can I pass up time and a half? Plus, I negotiated to have the Saturday after off. Works for me.

I only have a 3 day work week next week. This weekend I have to go purchase some 50 pound bags of sand to put in my trunk so there's some added weight for the winter. So far the weather forecast for next week is downright ugly. No blizzards or anything, but snow and rain mixed. And my car is not a winter car.

Wednesday I'm going home and spending the day at my apartment relaxing. Thursday, depending on the weather, I'll either have someone pick me up or if it's safe, I'll drive to my parent's house. My mom is a horrible cook (her turkey ends up like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation with the dry turkey) so all I ever eat is mashed potatoes and pie.

If the bad weather sticks, once I get home Thursday night, I'm not leaving until work next Sunday :D

We'll be making a four-hour drive to my grandparents' place in Northern MN. Believe me, if you have ever tasted my grandma's Thanksgiving dinner, or her cooking in general, you'd walk that 214 miles one way, with no problems and no complaints. Hell, you'd probably break into a nice sprint for a good portion of the way.

We are doing this, instead of going 1/2 hour to DH's aunt's house, where we would likely be greeted with some new, odd, foreign dish that looks like it is still half-living or something that my dog wouldn't even eat because it smells that bad, and find ourselves either grabbing food at home beforehand or some kind of drive-thru sustainance afterward in order not to starve. His aunt is VERY stuck-up and has some problem with cooking normal, traditional food. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem trying different variations of traditional dishes, but when the dishes don't look or smell like food fit for human consumption, I draw the line. I might even try it on any other day, but not Turkey Day (I can forgive on Christmas, but not Turkey Day). I look forward to gorging myself silly on succulent turkey, stuffing, potatoes of all kinds, and cranberries... oooohh, the jellied kind where they take the shape of the can.... I could polish off a whole can on my own... Sorry, no can do on the goofy eccentric food. I am one for tradition, and I like to stick with what works, if only for just that one day.

I'm planning to go to a pancake breakfast at church with my dad, siblings, and foreign student while my mom stays home to cook the dinner. I requested off from work like I do every Thanksgiving.:bounce:

I'm comforted by the fact that you have a history of calling Dallas games WRONG!

Last year, I think Tony Romo threw like 5 touchdowns on Thanksgiving... Thanksgiving was good. :)

Well, for me and my wife, the schedule is something like this:

- Wednesday night/Thursday morning: I work 11p-7a
- I'll sleep until noon/1p Thursday afternoon
- Go to Cracker Barrel with my mother and grandmother (and hopefully father)
- Come home, veg out since I took Thursday into Friday off in lieu of extra pay. :)

I'm working but only for four hours. Other than that I'll probably eat something and play video games. I actually forgot about Thanksgiving and made a giant turkey yesterday. :D

Surprisingly EVERY single one of my employees wanted to work Thanksgiving. It's time and a half for them so I guess they all needed the money.

I normally deep fry a turkey but I might work a split, so I'll miss dinner. I probably won't know what my final schedule is until Saturday... the money would be nice though.

My aunt has taken over the Thanksgiving duties, which is fine cuz after last year's fiasco with the turkey.. and the ham at Easter... Grandma doesn't need to cook anymore.

Doing the Turkey trot? That's awesome, a friend of mine did it a few years back and loved it!

My folks and my SO's folks are coming to our house (first turkey day in our new house!). We are going to deep fry the turkey - it keeps the boys busy outside. I'm planning on asking my Mom to make me carrots - I can't explain it but her carrots are the best ever- something to do with how she cuts them.
I always make way too much food and use the day as an excuse to buy all kinds of fancy cheeses. I've already "visited" the cheeses I want at Trader Joes :)

You're right... if I keep predicting Dallas losses, they may well go undefeated the rest of the year.

We're doing the same thing we do every year. Get together at one family member's abode or another, stuff ourselves full of good homecooking, then sit around and talk about whats going on with each other while the kids run around makign enough noise to drown out a 747 on takeoff until its time for everyone to start going home.

Rather simple and boring. I like it quite a bit.
