Application Hilarity

I saw a few threads with "how not to apply for a job" and was reminded of this.

I used to work in a local, independent book store. To apply for a job at this store, you had to fill out an application that was more like an English and Literature test. But there was one that cracks me up to this day. If any of you are Stephen King fans, you'll think this is funny too.

Whenever someone dropped off an application, I would read it (mostly for fun, because they were usually hilarious). The questions include "Who is your favorite author? What was the last book you read?" Etc. One young lady wrote down Stephen King as her favorite author, had read all of his books, yada yada. Then she wrote that her favorite book by King was "Elizabeth Claiborne". :roll:

I know you King fans are laughing your asses off on this one!

(And for those of you who aren't, the book is about a woman named "Delores Claiborne", not a cosmetics icon)

I currently work in a bookstore with a similar application. We don't really pay that much attention to the quiz though.

I read on application once where under "What are your hobbies?" the girl wrote, "I love to read...I read 3 Gossip Girls books in two weeks!"

Needless to say, I was not impressed. :rolleyes:

Now, now...some people are slow readers. It doesn't mean they don't enjoy reading. Not sure what a "Gossip Girls" book is though, maybe it was the quality of the reading you were commenting on. :)

Yeah, the books are for young adults...are quite short, and are TERRIBLE. I skimmed one once because the kids' manager told us to warn parents about the content (lots of teen sex, drug use etc) and I was more offended by the crappy writing than the hedonistic teens.
