We just had our landscaping done. :) It's very beautiful. We built this house five years ago (exactly, in two weeks) and had never done anything with the section at all. Finally, four years later, we made arrangements for it to be done, thanks to the increased equity over that time.
The landscapers were a bit slow on communications, and it took almost a year to get it done. Next month will be the home expo show at which we first saw their work and decided to use them. We also had the area's biggest snow in 30 years during this time and heaps of rainy wintery weather, so we had a muddy yard for over a month! Soooo hard to keep the carpets clean with a dog and cat in those conditions!
So after all that, we're very pleased to have it done. :)
We have a lovely outdoor entertaining area, separate seating area away from that, a very small undulating lawn and total maintenance free garden. Might need to weed it in a year's time and put down new bark, that's all. :D
Lots of photos (http://s111.photobucket.com/albums/n136/One-Fang/Landscaping/). I didn't find out till after they were uploaded that Photobucket puts them up in reverse order(!!!), so if you're interested in seeing the progress, start at the end on page 3.
