OK, right now I am well on my way to an ulcer. I really enjoy where I work, and with my current schedule not having a guaranteed schedule isn't too big of an issue... I only have one class a day and I'm going for the less desirable shifts (nights and weekends). Well, I just found out rather than having monthly online bids... which allows me to have a semi-guaranteed schedule (the managers can still go in and rearrange schedule to work within a school schedule) but not have fixed days off and fixed hours. My manager had suggested that under the same system with me going part time next semester so I could take more classes that I could still just do my bid and then have hours cut off of each day. That was 2 weeks ago, fast forward to today, the company has announced that they will start using a live bid, so when we call in at our bid time we can only chose what is available at that time so unless I have a fully guaranteed "no-bid" schedule there will be no way for me to make sure that my work schedule won't interfere with my school schedule. To make things worse my manager is on vacation until only 3 days before our first live bid is supposed to take place. I'm hoping that considering the change in policy she will be willing to put me on a no-bid schedule... but there is nothing to say for certain that she will. Right now I'm not sure if I should be abandoning ship and sending in apps to every place advertising part time student shifts or if I should just be patient and see where it goes?

I didn't quite follow what you were talking about. Generally, though, when scheduling starts conflicting with work, there are going to be problems down the road no matter what you do. So applying elsewhere is probably a good idea.

ok, long story short, on the old system I was guaranteed a schedule that would not interfere with my school, the new system they are proposing would not guarantee a schedule that doesn't conflict with school, so the basic question is should I bail ship or be patient and work through it taking my chances.

(though mini update, I checked the bid schedule, and I didn't see a time slot assigned to my name for when I need to call in my bid, so it's possible my manager arranged something and hasn't told me anything yet).

Talk with your manager, see if there are any new developments... and if not, prepare to bail as soon as you have something else.

Yea, I'd talk with the manager and just ask. Working and going to school is tough and finding an employer who is willing to work totally around your schedule is even tougher.

If you do decide to start applying elsewhere, I'd suggest an on-campus job (if that's a possibility). You may not make as much money but they'll at least know you're a student and probably be more flexible with ya.

Good luck!
