I'm not a very techy person, but this one made me laugh so hard I cried.

I never knew this, but when the machines fail at work, they say "Physical Dump of Memory" and then shut themselves off.

Ok it probably really isn't that funny. But I think it is. I called over a room runner and said "My machine took a dump!"

. I called over a room runner and said "My machine took a dump!"

Is doing a 'Core Dump', comes from the time computers used core memory.

Okay, you have got to tell that to someone who has no clue about computers and have a camera handy. I so want to see their face.

I'd tell them to get a shovel and a garbage can.

I'm so old I've seen a Wang take a core dump. That's both sallacious and gross.

Did your Wang hang during the dump? Did it have two dongles? Did you try to plug it into a SCSI unit?

Computers are so dirty, apparently...

And that's not even counting 'The Internet Is For Porn'.

Good thing you didn't give the computer an enema . . . that really would have been messy.

Of course I've never seen one wearing Depends but I guess there's a first time for everything.:p:lol:

Even better when you 'send the dump to a senior engineer to analyze it'.

Eew.

Oh you have no idea. Ever done any coding?

There's things in coding called classes, that have parents and children. They're just different ways of storing and accessing variables at the right time. However... it gets a little weird.

These code structures have public and private variables. Which child classes are allowed to use both the public and private variables of any parent class above them in the code.

So, to put it how one of my teachers once did:

"This is when code just gets weird, because you have children touching they're parents and grandparents privates".

YES! That is an awesome analogy! I'm a programmer and I ditto that.

Apparently, you have no idea what I used to call my classes.

Reminds me of a command I saw on the system at my work:

"CD -- Cancel job and take a dump"

I had to laugh out loud at that one. :p

I bet mine were worse ;)

Actually, my beginning C++ teacher had some pretty bad ones. He'd always ask the class what to call something, since everyone was typing along, it made it easier for us to organize stuff if we were the ones that named it.

Teacher: Ok, so what should we call this variable?
Guy in front row: Fuckbucket.
(He said this without missing a beat, it was brilliant)
Teacher *typing*: F-U-C-K-B-U-C-K-E-T.

That teacher was a freak. Awesome as hell, but a total freak. One of the best classes I ever took. :D

Unix did it first. ;)

And also had man and cat.

man poke | cat

Isn't there also "mount" and "get"?

I forgot about that one (never had to use it much). Yeah, mount could make for some fun commands.

You mean like this?

gawk, date, grep, touch, finger, unzip, strip, mount, fsck, fsck, fsck, yes, yes, yes, unmount, make clean, zip, sleep

Man, I love geek humor!

Don't forget master/slave relationships, too.
