Ok so I've been living in the big city for what, ten years now? However as the saying goes, you can take the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl.
Say one was the hypothetically get engaged (long story...I asked, he said yes but still wants to do the old fashioned thing. We're planning end of May/first part of June of 09 or 10 depending on funds). And say one wanted it out close to her home area since there are a ton of family that is older and has a hard time um, moving. Is it so bad to have this dress as a riverside option? Dress sans hat (http://martinmccrea.com/marcela/).
I only ask because one of the friends I asked had a problem that it was a bit too country. LOL I said duh, look at where I want it and how I grew up. I want something I can be comfy and still party in. I figure this way it's still couture but with in a decent budget and if it gets dirty, well it's cleanable. LOL and it hides my hips.
If you're on the other message board, you know how excited I am so please comment where ever. ;) I just wanted a few opinions since I know you shouldn't stop at the first dress you look at.
Heh and don't worry Jester and Knightmare, I still adore you guys. DBF has the qualities I adore in you both so you KNOW he has to be awesome right? ;) (Please both of you laugh at that?? I don't want to seem freaky or anything.)
*sigh* As I said before, I don't see how anyone gets hitched, the process is insane!!

That dress is awesome. Congrats on the up coming wedding. I agree with you, comfort and such is the most important thing. Do what YOU want and screw everyone else, its YOUR big day. Not remembering that was the biggest mistake I made.
Good luck!!:D

That dress is gorgeous. And honestly? Who cares what anyone else thinks? Wear what YOU want to wear, do what YOU want to do, have it where YOU want to have it. Know why? Cause it's YOUR DAY and not your friends, your parents or anyone else but you and your boy. Don't let anyone else get ahold of it cause it will get out of hand and it will become something that isn't you. But this should be something that is yours and what you want.

I really can't see how that dress is "too country" nor too plain. For me it looks like a vintage, romantic dress with beautiful lace detailing, and it would be perfect for a lovely summer wedding... aaaahhh...
Congratulations :)

That dress is gorgeous in it's simplicity. That is a dress I would be proud to pass on to a daughter or niece, because that design is absolutelly timeless. If you love it, by all means, buy and wear it with joy. Don't worry about what your friend says, it's your day, and you know you wouldn't want her to be unhappy on her big day because you shot down the choice of dress she had. In the long run, as long as you are happy and you have the best day ever, wear whatever you want!
I got married recently, had a small personal ceremony wearing my gypsy garb from Amtgard, and even though everyone else said I should be traditional, I wouldn't have had it any other way.
Congrats!!!!!!!

Oh, you women, fawning all over a piece of fabric....
Ok, it's a beautiful dress. You chose well. I just hope you didn't get all those bride magazines to help you choose. They are full of ads, are bad for the landfills, and take up precious space where my Guns and Ammo and Soldier of Fortune should be.
And I'll echo what everyone else has said; it's your day, so do it how you want. Forget about the groom. He doesn't matter. I mean, he's only marrying you. A lifelong commitment. Why should it matter if he wants something a certain way? Nahh, that's just silly. Just get the dress and have a big party with some cake and mimosas. Why get married? Just a big headache anyway.
Ok, get married. Just remember to give the groom his "special day." ;)
-Knightmare, who will probably never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever get married. Ever. Probably. Maybe.
Mmmm cake.

ROFLMAO oh he's giving input whether he wants to or not! I'd like him to have a good time at this thing as well. Though he did tell me to get him the basic plans and he'll let me know what he has a problem with. *grins* Negotiations eh?
Amusingly enough I have to have 5 bridesmaids due to him. I was happy with 1 or 2! Thanks to everyone for your input! I think the gypsy garb would have been awesome to see personally. Heh that's just me though, I dig going against the grain. :D

That's a georgeous dress. You like it, and everyone else's opinion really doesn't matter much. You're the one going to be wearing it, if it looks good on you, go for it.
I'm not sure how she gets "country" out of that. I was picturing some sort of Scarlett O'Hara thing before I clicked on the link. That's more like Pride and Predjudice or something. Very classic, very tasteful. Good pick.

Okay, from a male perspective here, that dress is gorgeous. Simple and elegant and beautiful. If your friends have a problem with the dress, then the problem is THEIRS, not yours. And obviously that is not the dress for THEIR wedding, but if you think it is the one for yours, by all means, go for it. Their input will matter when/if you pick out the bridesmaids' dresses (since 5 of them will be wearing them!), but as for your dress? Um, no. The only other person whose input should matter to you should be the groom. Because if for some strange reason HE finds the dress repulsive, you might want to look at other options. Seeing as you hardly want his memory of the wedding being "What the hell was she doing in THAT?"
Heh and don't worry Jester and Knightmare, I still adore you guys. DBF has the qualities I adore in you both so you KNOW he has to be awesome right? ;) (Please both of you laugh at that?? I don't want to seem freaky or anything.)
Uh, freaky? On this board? Nooooo......never......
And if he is anything like me, he is either really really cool, charming, devilishly handsome, and through and through awesome.....or he's a major dork with a penchant for really bad jokes and a potentially embarrassing personality.
I'm hoping for the former!

That dress is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!! :swoon:
Like everyone else says, it's YOUR day...well, the groom's, too, but :p.
If your friend doesn't like your dress, too bad to her. She's been outvoted.

From you description I was expecting something almost strange maybe and instead I was impressed with something very stunningly beautiful.
It's way more beautiful then the "brides been hidden in the mass of fabric" dresses that you see a lot. And repeating everyone of course...it's your wedding...your day...it's completely between you and the one you're marrying.

I kind of wish that site had been available when I got married.
I mean, I liked my dress and all, but there are some georgeous dresses on that site.

I agree. It is your wedding day and you choose your wardrobe. Whether it is full-on formal with petticoats and hoop skirts and cinches in a large cathedral or just a simple gauze-y cotton dress on the beach. Your day is what YOU make it. You want the dress, go for it.
As long as you are happy, then don't worry about anyone else.

Couldn't I be both?
Charming? Check.
Devilishy handsome? Well.. kinda, check, maybe. I'm all right
Humble? Check. ;)
Awesome? Check.
Bad jokes? I mean, the bad jokes... there's something about telling a horribly bad joke and being the only one to get it. Man, I laugh myself silly sometimes. Like right now.
Why can't people stay up with me? Come on, it's not rocket science. It's just a very bad, obscure joke that Dennis Miller probably wouldn't get. Maybe. If he ate fish.
Jester, I have a feeling that if we ever met up, the Keys would never be the same.

If I had that kind of money, I'd buy myself one right now.

Well in all technicality, I don't have the money either right now. However I figure in a year I can save for it. LOL I know the dress isn't THAT much but still, that's a rent check right there. I am looking for friends who might be able to do something similar with out breaking copyright.

I made my hubby take a look at that dress, and now, well, he wants me to have a very similar pattern made, do it in purple and black (Amtgard company colors), add some coins and other gypsy like stuff, and he wants me to make a similar hat in purple and black! When I'm done with it, you'll still be able to recognize it, thankfully. In order to keep from stealing someone's design and making it a "knockoff", you just have to really make slight alterations to the pattern. Usually not even noticeable to the most discering(?sp?) fashion buff. I hope all goes well!
Actually, I think I may already have an extremely similar pattern that just might need some extremely easy altering. I'll look through my stuff my next day off and let you know. If not, I have a friend who can whip up a pattern in no time flat, and I'll be extremely happy to have it made (or altered as the case may be) in your size and send it to you as a early wedding gift. Just let me know if that's what you would like!

Um, dude? The Keys are already very different as it is. I hate to burst your bubble, but at the expense of your ego and even mind, I dare say we would barely have a dent on this place.
Seriously.
PHOENIX, on the other hand.......

OHHH I might have to take you up on that one! LOL I'd feel guilty as heck but dang that would be cool!!
I think the other reason I like the dress so much is that my weight does the "shift" thing every few years. I'll lose, I'll gain, repeat. I think that style of waist/material would be the easiest to um...adjust as needed LOL.

Nothing to feel guilty about. Like I said, I just did the wedding thing, and I know how hard it can be. Like I said, just let me know whenever you wish.
Your right, the material that would be used to make that dress, and the style, is great for adjustments.

I say, it's your wedding, you wear what you want! Personally, I am all for simplicity in wedding gowns. Some beading or frills are nice but I want to be able to move and not worry about things getting ripped of my dress, or getting scratched by random sequins or buttons or what have you. If/when I ever get married, I will seriously check out the wedding dresses at Target.com. I recently learned that they carry them, and they are fairly simple designs, and you can mix and match bodice and skirt styles, and they are really pretty and (I believe) all under $200.
Though, ya know, if you get the hat, you could get the wedding cake to match...:p

You mean Riverside as in near a river or Riverside the city?
Eh, it doesn't matter. I can see that dress in the country AND in the city. Its gorgeous and I'd wear it too if I had the proper body shape.
My advice: those who think its too country can suck it. Those who think its not couture enough can just bite it. Its YOUR wedding, YOUR body and YOU have to be comfortable in it. Period.
