Really Sucky Waitress

I took my kids out for lunch today, they've been really well behaved this week so i though they should have a treat :)

When we walked into the restaurant, we weren't greeted by anyone, i stood there for a while waiting but nobody came over, there was a waitress talking to a coworker, she looked at me then turned back to the coworker and continued talking.

We get seated, the waitress brings us menus, during this she has not spoken to me once. She comes back to take our order and she just stands there staring at me, not saying a word.

I order food for the kids and myself as well as drinks, she brings the drinks over and then the food and drops everything off, still hasn't spoken to me.

My daughter wanted a refill on her drink but no matter how many times i try to get my servers attention, she would stare at me and keep on walking, i had to go up to the bar to get the drinks.

The only time she spoke to me was to tell me the total of my bill when i went to pay, i paid, she gave me change and turned back to what she was doing, no thank you, no see you again.

I was extremely polite to her the entire time and my girls said thank you to her when their meals arrived but she didn't say one word to them. My eldest asked me why the waitress was so cranky :lol:

I don't think i'll be going back there any time soon.

One of the best cases for the "four penny tip" I've heard in a long time.

I'm all for proper tipping ( typically 15 - 20% even for okay service, more for great) and I know that no one can survive on the <$3.00/hour that wait staff are paid without the tips, but if you give me NO service, that's all you're gonna make off of me.

In cases like this, I couldn't care less if she's making $2 an hour. Part of the dining out experience are the minor pleasantries like, well, speech.

The concept of the multi-penny tip is to show the waitress that she sucked, rather than let her think that perhaps you forgot to tip.

Friend of mine, his family and I used to go to Coco's like once a week. We usually had waitresses who knew us, but on the last trip there (partially because of waitress, mainly because they no longer served free bread with dinner) the waitress hardly said a word and never smiled. Dad usually was the kinda guy who would strike up friendly conversation, but no such luck this time. More bad service etc.

We contemplated not leaving her a tip, or doing the penny thing, but my friend ended up writing on a napkin "here's a tip, smile b-word" (not censored on napkin)

Oh, OK. I see the point. >I< wouldn't fail to tip unless for reasons, but she might assume otherwise. So, mutli-penny says: "I didn't forget, loser."
