Yesterday, my service desk coworker wanted to know if I would be interested in running the next checker training class. I mentioned that if the proper arrangements were made, it would be doable.:D
I was told that I would probably get trained with running the class but it's been a while since I've trained other checkers (which was at my 1st retail job). If anyone has any suggestions so everything will go smoothly, I'd appreciate it.:)

Best bet is to ask others that have done it at your store for tips. They will know exactly how it works at your store and what to expect.

Find the training room, and put a small nail in the wall, leaving just enough to hang your coat. Make sure it's very near to something like a whiteboard. Wait until everybody's in, then walk in, draw a hook on the whiteboard, and hang your coat on that hook. At the end of class, take your coat, and erase the hook.
Dunno if they'll learn anything, but I guarantee they'll be focused on the front of the room the entire class.
And yes, I shamelessly stole this from elsewhere (it's an Air Force training story). Just can't remember where.

I don't know what your stores policies are but from just going through registar training I can tell you some things I found helpful.
Acknowledge that you and the store/ corporate know they are human.
Point out that they will only be able to help one customer at a time.
Smile at each customer
make sure they know who can back them up should the need arise and how to get that person to them.

To add to what Emrld said:
Stress that it's better to ask questions if there's something they're not sure about...it's almost always quicker and less aggravating to wait for an answer than to screw it up and have to start over. (At the same time, there comes a point where they shouldn't be asking the same questions over and over...like one cashier I trained who constantly asked the same things even after being at the store for over a year. :hairpull:)
