The jist is i need to find a good dentist quickly and get these damn wisdom teeth removed but there are only two dentists in this town with a wait list of about 3 months
I'm taking a shit load of strong pain killers and most nights only getting about half an hours sleep, it feels like i'm getting stabbed in the side of the head and the pain isn't just in my mouth, it travels the entire side of my head.
I went to the doctor today and he gave me a prescription for penicillin because my mouth is infected, so i hope that works cause i really need to get some sleep.
I'm going to beg the dentist to try to get in sooner, i can't stand it anymore, i'm a walking zombie, i took two pain killers 20 minutes ago and they are starting to kick in and make me sleepy, so i'll leave it at that.
I just want the pain to go away.

The severity of your pain and the mention of an infection means that this is something that cannot wait.
Agreed. If left to fester, the infection will spread to your bloodstream where it'll do even worse damage (heart, jaw-rot).
I'm in a slightly similar situation myself, having four bastardly wisdom teeth that should have come out years ago, but due to my own chickenshittedness (and an unhelpful oral surgeon scaring the crap out of me with vivid descriptions of Potential Dangers like nerve damage) I bailed on it. Now I can't afford *any* dental treatments (not even cleanings) at all, so I'm just waiting until my situation hits that breaking point.
Don't know if you have insurance or not, but believe me, I completely understand that feeling of being caught between a financial rock and a health hard place. :( It sucks.

CALL!! Go call your municipality/city and find out if there are any low income dental programs around. Usually there are. And when I was in college I used the dental school's stuff. I would get my teeth cleaned, filled there for a very cheap price, it just took longer than a reg dentist.
GO GET IT DONE NOW.. Knowing you have an infection in your intake valve is not acceptable. Your mouth is so connected to things it's not funny. Get it done.

I feel for you. Dentists are always so damn booked. The last time I scheduled a teeth cleaning, I had to wait over a month. Yes, I am dead serious. Heaven help me if I ever need my wisdom teeth removed or something else done.
I must say though, if our insurance at work had a bigger network of dentists, rather than just, oh, 10 of them, I'd probably have better odds!

Last year I broke a wisdom tooth. (Yes, I am special like that.) I called one of the dentists to book an appointment. Month or so wait. OK, it doesn't hurt, so I'll deal with it.
A few weeks later it starts to HURT. Call the dentist, ask if they can slip me in? Nope. Holy biscuit.
My coworkers recommened the ER, for what it's worth.
Oh, yeah...the dentist I went to (still do, actually) doesn't do extractions. I had to go to an oral surgeon. I had to wait another few weeks to go there.

get it taken care of asap!
that kind of pain is... bleeeeh *shudder*
last year i had a root canal done...surprisingly it wasn't that bad, until afterwards when the pain set in. my cheek was horribly inflamed, even with the antibiotics they gave me. It was bad enough that I only got about 1-2 hours of sleep a night.
my boyfriend helped and gave me some topical pain killer... and then all was good. I'd have to return in a couple of weeks for a permenant filling and that was about it.
...until the pain came back... i was scheduled for the permenant filling but couldn't hold out any longer. in fact my BF put his foot down and was like, "no you're going to the hospital *now*" and brought me in.
the pain was so bad that i was literally shaking in the chair & that's not normal for me. the doctor gave me some ibruprofin () and some more penecilin. and from the xrays they figured the infection was the same as before...only it was *below* the tooth, which is why the root canal didn't fix it. And I was told to see my own dentist in the morning.
So...fast forward to the morning... dentist looks at me and gives me some Tylenol #3. ...It didn't work. I found my bf and asked if he had any of the topical stuff...and was about 2 seconds away from crying from the pain. He looked at how horrible i looked and brought me back to the dentist.
I don't know how I survived the first time i was in pain... all i knew is that i couldn't go through another case of only sleeping a couple of hours a night. And I didn't have to. The dentist was able to pierce the infection and before he was even finished with me...I'd fallen asleep in the chair, finally free from pain.
so yes... try to get the teeth fixed asap. you dont want to go through that. :(

PepperElf, the pain you described is like mine, so bad that i was throwing up.
I got 8 hours sleep last night (thank you god) But going to the dentist on Monday, if they can't get me in soon i'm going to drive to Armidale which is the next major town over roughly 65kms away.
Cross your fingers i can get in quickly.
I have to go to work now

for those on here with no insurance in the US-you may want to check out care Credit (http://www.carecredit.com/index.html)-they assist with financing for vision, dental work, cosmetic work, veterinary procedures, Chiropractic, fertility treatments, hair restoral, and weight loss.

I've rang 3 dentists, 2 in my town and another out of town, the one out of town are not taking any more patients because the are booked out until July.
I did manage to get a closer appointment at the dentist in my town, they were originally booked out until June, but i begged and she has gotten my an appointment on the 29th of April and has also put me on a list if someone cancels their appointment.
So every one pray someone cancels real soon :)

I was a dental assistant many years ago. You cannot wait that long. If you have an infection it can kill you. I'm completely serious. An infection in the head is extremely dangerous because of the high blood flow through the area.
If there isn't an infection, the pain and lack of sleep is going to drag you down within a week or two.
Honestly, if you don't have insurance, the receptionists may be hesitating to book you. If you do have insurance, call your insurance company and explain the situation. They should be able to tell you the name of a dentist who is taking patients. They may even be able to help get you in sooner.
If you don't have insurance, as Cutenoob suggested, find out if there is a dental school in your area.

I've used the care credit to take care of a root canal and porcelain fuse crown 4 years ago. Care credit is somewhat like a credit card: you are given a certain amount and you have to pay it back.

Unfortunately i don't have insurance, i have called another 3 dentists in the next town over and their wait list is even longer.
This really sucks.
I have one other option and that is to drive home to the Gold Coast which is 7 hours away and go see my uncle who is a dentist, i'll have to arrange time off work to do this and stay with my mother for a couple of days and would have to pull my daughters out of school for a day or two.
I'll give him a call and see what he can do.

Go see your uncle. Work out a family payment plan. Get this taken care of as soon as possible. And please let us know how you are doing.

I had a CT scan yesterday because the doctor thinks it has more to do with my sinuses than my teeth, they also took xrays of the back of my jaw because my mouth keeps locking up.
I'll see the doctor next week after he looks at the images.
I'm not in as much pain at the moment and am finally getting some decent sleep, i haven't had to take any pain killers in a few days now which is good.
Wish me luck for the doctor.
