I got a call from a primerica recruiter recently. I had signed at one of their job fair booths saying that I wanted more information. They have me scheduled for an interview tomorrow. It seems weird to me that they seem to be so willing to work with my school and work schedule for an interview... it almost felt like they were trying to sell me an interview. Should I be feeling a bit off about this?

The guy who used to be a partner in the company with my former boss was into primerica. From my understanding it along the same lines of Partylite, Pampered Chef, and the like. It gets its base from the basic principals of a MLM and works as a proffit pyrimid. You will be the top level with no one paying into you. When you recruit more people to work under you, then you will recieve a portion of their proffits, as the ones you have recruited recruit people under them you will recieve a portion of what they earn as well.
You are going to be selling things like Insurance and Financial Services. I do know that he had to get a License to sell insurance (a California State requirement I believe). And also, he was very big into the "get rich quick" types of schemes.
They are a division of CitiBank, not that it matters much though. But you will probably be expected to plunk down some money for a "Initial Starter Kit" and then have to do a certain number of sells to remain active.
Basically its scameway for Ins and Financial stuff.
Oh yeah, you should be feeling very off. They will expect you to market to your friends and family and you will end up alienating some folks in the process.

well, i'm sure I can always back out during the interview with the completely legit reason that right now I can't afford the risk of being on a commission based job.

Yup. Any time someone's herding you into an interview, be very cautious. Multi-level marketing especially. There was a reason places looking for help would advertise "NOT MLM!" some years ago, when it became a booming business.

And they will make you pay for your training, and MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT pay you back. Doubtful, though.
RUN. AS. FAST. YOU. CAN.

My parents did the Primerica thing back in the early 90's when I was a kid.

This sounds like Amway.

Do not and I mean DO NOT go with Primerica as a job.
They definitely are a pyramid scheme, much the same as Amway or Mary Kay.
They WILL expect you to buy into the stuff that your recruiter is selling.
They WILL pressure the hell out of you.
However, make up your own mind. :D The following link has both pros and cons:

The guy who tried to recruit me was hot.
I told him that if it was such a great job and profits were through the roof, HE could pay for my license and whatall and I'd pay him back out of my first check.
He declined that deal.
RUN. AWAY.

ok, so the general gist I'm getting is run away fast... kinda bouncing an idea off y'all, $99 is a great deal on getting all three licenses... would it be worth it to sign on, get my licenses and bail or better to just find somewhere else that will do the licenses for that much or less or just go through the state and pay full price? or option d- stay in school until I can get my CPA/CMA still working my call center slave job?
