I am a bit of a history geek, and I have been watching rather religiously HBO's miniseries "John Adams." My first thought, when I first saw it, was "Paul Giamatti?!?!" And yet, it not only works, it works amazingly well. I have been completely blown away by this series, by Giamatti, by several other actors as well, such as Tom Wilkinson as Benjamin Franklin, Laura Linney as Abigail Adams, Stephen Dillane as Thomas Jefferson, and David Morse as George Washington, and just the overall quality and magic that has gone into this production. It literally has transported me back to these times, and I am blown away....and I am normally a bit of a jaded cynic! Even the title music haunts me. Frankly, if this production does not win several awards, including some for Giamatti, I will be shocked and appalled.

So, with my opinions clearly expressed here (as they usually are everywhere else), I am just wondering what you folks think about this. At least, those of you who have seen it.

I think Paul Giamatti is a great actor. I first noticed him in Howard Stern's movie and have been a fan ever since. John Adams is a great series.

I have to see that sometime.

When did you say it was available on DVD, Jester?

As I recall June 10, but check Amazon. I could, and often am, wrong.

Sounds like a very good show. I wish I had time to watch it. I am assuming that it is historically accurate (I'm a History major)

Yeah it's great! I've only watched the first two episodes, the others are on the dvr though. At first the wigs were a little distracting (I was wondering if the actors complained about the really ugly ones "why do I get the poodle wig?"). Anyway, kudos to HBO!

From what I understand, it is devastatingly accurate, with of course some minor issues (no one's perfect, after all). The costuming is ridiculously accurate for all the different time periods....again, from what I know. That is one of the beauties of the show, is the accuracy, both in look and content.
