About five years ago, I met this woman who I liked very much. One thing led to another and we (sort of) fell in love. They were odd times -- both of us were having other problems in life. It wasn't a great relationship, but it was a good one.

And then one day, a guy she used to know showed up at her door. TC, as we'll call him, had just gotten out of prison for dealing crack. He went into this long story about how he'd learned his lesson, but he didn't have anybody in the world, and he'd been saved, blah, blah, blah.

There wasn't anything going on between her or him (well, he was into the idea but supposedly accepted that she was with somebody else)... except that he became utterly dependent on her. The guy was almost always around, and when he wasn't, he was on the phone. We're not talking about him just visiting frequently... It was like 7AM until late in the night.

Long story short... he and I hated each other with a vengeance right from the start (crack dealers aren't my favorite pals even on my good days), and her and I broke up over the whole thing, although we remained vague friends. He wound up stealing up stealing her stuff and fleeing to another state.

Not long after, she moved to a different state herself, and the story should have ended... each of us in different states, going on with our lives.

As luck would have it, she moved back to my town a few months ago. After several fits and starts, we finally decided we'd give it another go. Tonight, we went to the fair, the big event in town.

We're having a good time and things are looking okay... and then... believe this or not... guess who walks up?

And guess what he says? "I've been saved and I'm putting my life back together, but I've got like nobody in the world. Give me a chance to make it up to you."

So, while they were exchanging telephone numbers so they can "keep in touch," I started walking away... and just kept going.

I've seen this movie before. I didn't like it the first time, so I don't see any reason why I'd want to see the remake.

That's a true story.

Wow....just.........wow.

Does this dude just follow her around or something?

If she'd have laughed at him and pointed him towards the gospel tent, I'd have been okay with it. But this was like the cosmos screaming out, "TNT, move on. That's not a hint. It's a command."

All I want out of life is dinner and a movie...

I don't think you could make this up. this is one of those "truth is stranger than fiction" moments.

Good for you. You knew when trouble was coming and you dodged it before the bullet hit. Saved yourself a WHOLE lot of trouble.

Did she call you up later and whine about why you left her standing there? Enquiring minds want to know! (Well, okay, maybe it's just my enquiring mind ... and maybe it's not that enquiring ... and well ... I'm just nosey! Okay???)

I say you did the right thing walking away. I would also say to break off all contact with her.

She did call a bunch of times, but I'm a master of the flip phone... open the phone long enough to connect, close it quickly enough to not give anyone an opportunity to say anything.

There are situations that are worth talking about. There are other situations where any further discussion would be pointless.

Anyway, thanks everybody for all the support and advice.

There's entirely too much going on in my life right now... but ultimately, "it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." After several unusual weeks, I find myself back exactly where I was before.

Not entirely true... I start a new job on Monday, so that's something.

She's in a recurring loop with this guy. Until one of them is removed from the scenario permanently, it's going to keep happening, and he's going to keep coming back with the same old song and dance. In fact, I'm reminded of Saddam's song and dance in the South Park movie.

Run, don't look back. You'll find someone else.

I'm not living for the past
No, I'm not living for the memories
There's no use in looking back
There's nothing there to see

There's no use in looking back
When I know there is nothing there to see
I'm not living for the past
Or for the memories
