figured this place was the most appropriate palce to post this-
ok as some of you know-I'm unemployed-which means a hefty job search. I have been applying to at least 10 employers a week for the past 3 months(only been unemployed since june 1st-knew my unemployment was coming)-I have had 3 interviews in that time.

The first one I was hired then told I couldn't work there due to my latex allergy(this was at a hospital that promotes itself as a totally latex free environment)-and was jerked around for two weeks-when they knew the job involved latex gloves-apparently "totally latex free environment"-means the job we've hired you for requires at least four hours of wearing latex gloves. And I informed them no less than 5 times of my allergy and was reassured each time that the facility "did not use latex of any kind for any reason"-they lied.

Second interview was for an answering service-(basically Gravekeeper's job-third shift answering phone for 200+clients). Interview went great-hired on the spot pending paperwork, interviewer told me I was a shoe in as I was the only person she interviewed that was willing to work third shift, and the only person that applied that had call center experience.
Oops-only hiring for bi-lingual people(not mentioned in the ad or the interview-person that interviewed me didn't even know this until she went to get me scheduled)

third interview-and this one makes me want to just give up totally-prior experience doing the job-great work history, glowing references, job I totally loved when I did it before.
Sorry because you were a stay-at-home-mom for two years(six years ago-background check goes back 7 years) you auto fail the background check-"because we can't verify that you were actually living in the US and taking care of your child". The job is cleaning animal cages in a science lab(not getting into any kind of argument over animal testing-they do both medical testing and genetics work*)-I'm an ALAS certified animal caretaker. The only other places I can use that certification are at the place I worked when I got it(stalker boss-no thank you), or the state vet school(will not work there as they do testing on primates, and I draw the line there-mice and rats I'm a bit more ok with-even though I have them as pets-monkeys-hell no). I hate being penalized for being a mother(I am also not debating SAHM vs WOTHM-whatever works for you-great more power to you-I don't know your situation and I am not you-my situation required that I be a SAHM)-it's not fair.

*I'm ok with taking care of lab animals because I'd rather see someone that cares about animals(me)being a part of it to ensure they're treated well, rather than someone that is indifferent or outright despises them. Someone that cares is going to treat them better, and make sure they aren't being hurt.

Edited to add:
And now my backup of "well I was offered a position in another department at my old job with a training class starting in July" has been dropped as well-training class was cancelled until October-which means I'd lose my payrate of $12/hour(be knocked down to $8.50 after 3 years), and would not be eligible for insurance for 12 months, and would have to reapply/reinterview in october.

this can't be happening..........

What difference does it make if you were living in the US 6 years ago? Are you a legal US citizen? Then it shouldn't matter!

I don't have much in the way of advice, but I hope things start going better for you...

Yeah getting hired and the being told something entirely out of my control means I can't work there is soo much better. I'd rather just not hear anything than get my hopes up-be ready to start and them get told on my start date "oops we goofed you don't have a job"

Don't give up. I know how frustrating it can be. I was off work for nearly two years because of health issues, and it took me a long time to find a job after that.

You've had a string of bad luck, but things will turn around. :)

I would devote more time to looking for another job at the dealershit (no typo here), but with having a varied schedule it's not easy if I need or want to go out and apply in person/call or let alone have an interview. I've had one so far and that one (IMO) sucked. Most to all of the emails I get are "sorry, the position is filled", the auto-response after applying . :( For a year or so I constantly ended up with jobs that had crappy pay, low hours and were temporary with no benefits. I hoped my current job would finally break that, but apparently not, since I went from Appointment Setter to a stinkin' Greeter in less than 60 days on the job! I know how you feel, BlaqueKatt. Just keep looking and keep your head up.

I know the feeling. Searching for a job sucks!!!
However in my experience you will get a period of no one wants you to....everyone wants you!

I seem to find as soon as one job says yes, then a whole bunch will come back with a positive reply.

Keep in there.....its only a matter of time....and :headscratch: How do you NOT know what a job requires when you are the interviewer?!!!

Don't know what type of jobs they are offering, but Epic is doing a whole bunch of expanding. Maybe try up there? It may not be in the field you were looking for but the receptionists there seemed to really be enjoying working there and at least it would be better than nothing anyway. Good luck!

That one with the latex gloves had me going :headscratch: :wtf: too. Some serious bull$#!t going on there.

I am totally in the same boat as you, BlaqueKatt. Job hunting sucks rocks through a straw. And every place is more interested in schmoozing and bamboozling than actually getting the job done. It's disgusting. I can only hope the economy turns around with the next administration, and we can all keep our heads above water until then.
