As some of you may know, I have many cats. 8 of my own(Freya, Branwen, Harry, Jack, Herbie, Panda, Unni, and Josie), two fosters in general population (Bruce and Amanda). Those of you with pets know that they can exhibit some unpredictable behaviour from time to time.

Here is an excerpt from a chat conversation I had with Raps, earlier:

[11:31] Catwhisperer: I get home last night. The usual greetings at the door from the furry felines.
[11:31] Rapscallion: the whole wall?
[11:31] Catwhisperer: Bruce (one of the foster cats) out of nowhere jumps Jack.
[11:31] Catwhisperer: Jack is not a fighter, even though he's bigger than Bruce.
[11:32] Catwhisperer: He takes off. Bruce chases him. Other cats jump in trying to break it up. Harry. Freya.
[11:32] Catwhisperer: They take off up the stairs.
[11:32] Rapscallion: Harry trying to break a fight up?
[11:32] Catwhisperer: I give chase. Bruce runs into Josie in the office, who will fight.
[11:33] Catwhisperer: Yeah Jack is his little buddy, and Bruce is an outsider.
[11:33] Rapscallion: hehe
[11:33] Catwhisperer: So the melee ensues. Much fur and piss and attempting to render the other.
[11:33] Catwhisperer: I manage to break it up (with cardboard and not my hand this time).
[11:34] Catwhisperer: I get Bruce in my room. Josie is locked in the office, and the rest are dispersing (those not hiding under or behind stuff)
[11:34] Catwhisperer: Time passes. Josie is calmer. I let her out. Bruce seems fine.
[11:34] Catwhisperer: I open my door, just as Herbie is walking by.
[11:34] Catwhisperer: Bruce jumps Herbie.
[11:35] Catwhisperer: The chase is on once again.
[11:35] Rapscallion: keystone kops, by the sounds of it
[11:35] Catwhisperer: Down the stairs, up the stairs, right into Josie again.
[11:35] Catwhisperer: except for the potential for mortal wounds
[11:35] Catwhisperer: I manage to keep it from getting too far.
[11:36] Catwhisperer: Snatch Bruce up by the scruff, and take him back into my room. This time I make sure Unni is not under the bed, and do a cursory search for Jack (haven't been able to find him since the first melee)
[11:36] Catwhisperer: So Bruce is in my room. Acting like nothing is wrong.
[11:36] Catwhisperer: Everyone else is either hiding or twitching
[11:36] Rapscallion: cats...
[11:37] Catwhisperer: Still no Jack.
[11:37] Catwhisperer: Herbie is on top of the cupboards, hiding behind his sister, Panda.
[11:37] Catwhisperer: Panda is 6lbs and the size of a 9 month old kitten (she's full grown).
[11:37] Catwhisperer: Herbie is 15lbs and a few inches taller and longer than Harry.
[11:38] Catwhisperer: Herbie and Jack are brothers, and so not fighters.
[11:38] Catwhisperer: So I go to bed. Me and Bruce. Door closed.
[11:38] Catwhisperer: I feel another wet nose on my leg, and realize it's not Bruce.
[11:38] Catwhisperer: There's Jack!
[11:38] Catwhisperer: Oh shit!
[11:38] Rapscallion: rodfl
[11:39] Catwhisperer: Grab him and toss him out the door, before Bruce realizes it.
[11:39] Catwhisperer: So the funniest part is still to come.
[11:39] Rapscallion: this would make a great post on the forums
[11:39] Catwhisperer: BH (my step-sister. BH is short for Baby Hughey) was just on her way down the stairs when Bruce launched into Jack.
[11:40] Catwhisperer: Faith (another foster cat) was at the top of the stairs (kitten mother who is known to attack legs).
[11:40] Catwhisperer: Timing was perfect.
[11:40] Catwhisperer: well not so much for BH.
[11:40] Catwhisperer: Faith attacked BH's leg, just as she was coming down the stairs.
[11:40] Rapscallion: bwahahaha!
[11:41] Catwhisperer: fortunately the idiot learned last time to only wear long pants or jeans down there.
[11:41] Catwhisperer: Faith managed to get her nails through the jeans though
[11:41] Catwhisperer: draw blood
[11:41] Catwhisperer: So the only one who ended up bleeding was BH
[11:42] Rapscallion: heh

So yeah, at Raps' suggestion, I'm sharing my evening.

Thank you. They are a source of constant amusement. I'm not sure if it's because there are so many of them, or if they all happen to be "special" in that way.

So, which of the kitties is your avatar?

That was a foster kitty...can't think of her name surprisingly. She liked to have her picture taken, and would just sit in front of the camera and pose. She's actually yawning in this one.

For those who don't know, Harry claimed shares in me when I came over. There was a pastrami incident just before that.

LOL I thought it was just my kitties that are bad. Baxter and Sally are constantly getting into trouble and/or onto each others nerves.

Just last night, they were fighting over toys. Er, actually, there's one toy (a blue fish from Ikea) that Baxter has claimed for himself. He'll be batting it around or chewing on it...when Sally will take it from him. Then he starts whining :(

He got her good the other night though--he was curled up on the floor resting. Sally thought it would be good to get up on the table, and pounce on him. Sadly, that wasn't in the cards--Mid-pounce, he moved...and she went into the chair face-first

Usually, it's Sally causing the trouble. But, there are times that Baxter bugs her. This morning, when I left for work, he was sitting on "her" chair. (She likes to sit on top of the back of the chair--the cushion is big and fluffy enough--so she can look out the window.) He wasn't on the back of the chair, just curled up on the front. That didn't go over well--she was pissed!

One of our cats doesn't like other cats much at all. Ke'Chara will - if we bring a cat home - put up with it, but generally not with any particular grace.

We've had two cats deal with her. The first was a siamese named Priss. Smaller than Ke'Chara, but definitely feisty. They came to a detente of a sort, until we had to put Priss down. I think, largely, because neither of them liked the orange tom that would climb up on the outside ledge of our picture window. He wasn't too impressed by either of them hissing at him.

Then came Shinobi. She was even less pleased with him - probably because he's bigger than she is. But he gained points with her when the orange tom showed up again. This time, Shinobi showed up in the window, and the tom took off like his tail was on fire.

We occasionally let them outside - supervised - and that same orange tom pretty much lives outside. He's about the same size as Shinobi, but he seems to be mortally scared of our big black kitten. When Shinobi's around, he'll stay frozen in one place and do his best not to get noticed. If Shinobi does notice him, he leaves the area.
