I do not need another show to watch (or buy the dvds for). That being said, while waiting to leave for the drive in (Wall E rocks) I caught part of a couple of the show and I think I am getting hooked on Doctor Who. Should I start with Series I or where this rather cute doctor started. I am at a loss, but all I know is that I really want to watch more of it.

I am truely a geek now I think

Season 1, that way you get to ease into Eccelston and then have to ease into Tennet and watch them both give funny speaches. Like Eccelston to the tv group and Tennet to the Sycorax. That and you get to know all about Rose and then meet Martha and know why 10 keeps thinking of her with flashbacks in season three and why she's so important now in the last three episodes of season 4.

That really sucks. The reasons of the suck:

- I catch the last episode of the marathon
- I have to go into work right before the marathon starts
- I have other stuff going on while it is on
- They play the first part of a two-parter as the last episode of the marathon.

Sci-Fi, you want to show a six hour marathon of Enterprise or TOS? Could you advertise it during some of your shows (Especially one of your highest rated shows)? Thanks.

Start with Series 1. Go from the beginning.

Although, a REAL geek would start with the First Doctor.

And, a TRUE geek knows that Tom Baker is the Real Doctor.

Still, Tennet rocks. He's my second favorite. Now, if he could only get a companion like Ace. Or Peri ... mmm.

Welcome to the club!

Definitely start with Season One. Christopher Eccleston is amazing as the Doctor. Intense as a hurricane, sharp, brooding and sexy. His chemistry with Billie Piper is wonderful, and I really wish he'd done more than one series.

Or, if you really want a fun treat, try to find earlier Doctors. I'm partial to the Jon Pertwee and early Tom Baker years myself. Yes, the special effects stunk, but the writing, direction and acting made up for it. I think you'll enjoy the show. :D

The only thing with Sci Fi and Doctor Who is that they edit the shows for length...so yeah, that sucks sometimes. But it's not too bad for most episodes, just annoying if you've seen the show in it's true length and format and you watch the Sci Fi version and you are like, "wait, what happened to the such and such part," etc. BBC America does the same thing too.

Still, it's nice when they run those marathons...:D

Thank you one and all. Yes those marthons suck, they never run when I stay home sick. Now just need to haunt Fye and half.com for a good deal on the dvds. I do love British TV.

I've been trying, but no rental place near me has the DVDs, and I can't afford to buy them.

......But the library might still have the videos. I am an idiot.

The site I acquire the latest episodes from labels the current series "Season 30".

Real Whovians also watch reconstructions of the missing episodes. That or there was a lot of ventriloquism in the early days.

Netflix has them. Although there are very few of the earliest Dr Who shows left due to the BBC destroying the only prints in existence. Some of the DVD's have audio recordings that fans did during the shows airing, and one of the Patrick Troughton Dr Who Episodes was completely redone animated with the original sound recordings used as the soundtrack. It was some amazing work.

I added the entire run of Dr Who to my Netflix queue and am currently just into the Tom Baker years, which is where I first started watching the show way back when. :P

As to the question posed, I too suggest starting with the newest Season 1, which are also available on Netflix...

I suppose I should say, I don't work for said company, just a long time fan. :D

to really understand Dr. Who you have to begin at the beginning -- with William Hartnell -- Dr. #1. most of his episodes and those of Patrick Troutoun (Dr. #2) were LOST in a fire at the BBC archieves years ago (70's I think-- the films were not destroyed on purpose) and film print copies of those shows are SLOWLY being found world wide.

I thought there was only ONE unfinished episode in the original run called "Shada" (I think) about the time lord prison planet of the same name. this was during the (???) 6th Tom Baker season (they used a bit of it Dr and Romona punting down the river) in the 5 Doctors episode in the Peter Davidson years (Tom Baker was supposed to be the main Dr in that one but he had other commitments I believe). I do know there are scripts for the missing Dr 1 and Dr 2 episodes or audio recordings that survived. gotta look up that web site where I found them

Due to a camera operators' strike. The strike was resolved but there was a lot of catching up to do and only some parts of Shada were filmed. There was a VHS release of the filmed segments with Tom Baker narrating what happened during the unfilmed segments, and a version with Paul McGann as the Doctor was recorded as an audio play which was later animated and put on the BBC website.

*squeel* I got Season One half way cheap used at Fye. I can't wait to start watching. I so love have a portable DVD player on my desk (not my computer)

And the Doctor, in this season isn't too bad looking, but I like the current one :) he is very very cute, in an insane sort of way

I'll echo and say Start with Season One. I started midway through Season Two or Three with Tennant (and looove him!), and now I'm going through the beginning to watch what I've missed. I love a show that makes me giggle!
