Megaman 9!

That's an actual screenshot. Meaning it will be in old school 2D. How freaking awesome is that? It's going to be downloadable for the Wii.
There's a special place in my heart for the Megaman series. I remember the first time I saw Megaman 1, one of the older boys was playing it on their Nintendo at the babysitter's house. I was enthralled by the idea of a game that let you play the levels in any order you want, which turned out to be a trick to make you find the correct order by determining which boss was week to which weapon. Not by guides or gaming magazines or FAQs, but by old-fashioned trial-and-error. So I begged and pleaded to my parents and I got my own copy. It was harder than hell, to this day remains one of the most challenging installments of the series (damn you, floating/shooting platforms hovering over spiked floors), but I loved it.
Then Megaman 2 came out, and I was hooked for life. I will never stop loving that game, it had so many things to adore. Great music. Neato stages. Gigantic-but-cute Wily-stage bosses. Spamming the hell out of the Metal Blade. And Quick Man's stage, which I once had nightmares about but finally mastered to the point that I am now required to tackle his stage first.
The series eventually degenerated into tiresome, uninspired, repetitive mess. The Megaman X series breathed new life into it but then it, too, got a little too rehashed. After a few spinoffs (Megaman Legends, Battle Network, Power Battles), the Megaman Zero series came in and reminded me what made the franchise so wonderful. The MMZ series showed that a dusty old relic could be shined to perfection again. And it had the good sense to end before it wore itself out. Now there's Megaman ZX, which so far has been all kinds of goodness.
But to see a genuine old-style Megaman game again? It so good I may have to play through the original series again (except for 7 and 8, because they killed everything good that remained in the series).
