I'm sooo nervous... I have an interview/testing at the local police station tomorrowish for a dispatch job. I'm hoping I get it, but I'm nervous! Usually am before an interview, but I've never had something this "official" if you get what I mean.

I know we have at least one, perhaps more, dispatch people here... any suggestions?

I don't think I'm going to be able to sleep.

Edit - Also, I'd love a few crazy dispatch stories... just to get my head wrapped around the general stuff. Or crazy/weird/funny stuff. That helps too. I need a cookie. :(

Would you like that cookie chocolate chip, or chocolate meringue?

Sorry, can't help with the interview part.

can't help dispatch...never worked in it...but here is my all purpose pick me up to knock out any blues or nervousness....and garunteed to give you cavities...

Chocolate covered chocolate, dipped in chocolate, with a side order of melted milk chocolate, topped with chocolate shavings, and chocolate sprinkles.

Hope it helps...oh and if you don't want that...I have plain chocolate chip cookies and double chocolate chip cookies, and reverse chocolate chip cookies.

As silly as it sounds bounce up and down on your toes a few times to stretch your calves before going into the interview. Do this slowly so that you get a good stretch out of them. This should be done as close to the interview time as possible. Any more than 5 or 10 minutes before and it really won't help. If you can do it just before going into the building its even better.

This is more of a psychological thing and can help most people calm their nerves. The idea here is when you get nervous it triggers the fight or flight response. Stretching your calves makes your brain think "ok i'm ready to run if I have to" and can help you to calm down and focus. I've used this trick plenty of times before finals at school and it helps me alot. I always do it just before sitting down in my seat. I get alot of odd stares sometimes, but I explained it to a fellow clasmate one time and they seemed to like the idea. :)

Also it never hurts to say when its convenient to do so, "I have to admit I'm a little nervous. Interviews always make me sweat a little." Said with a smile this can A: help relax you, and B: helps you to gauge the interviewer by their response, C: most importantly lets the interviewer know that silly slip ups are your nerves and not your nomal way of doing things.

Well, I didn't go today, because it was a holiday (didn't think of that before, duh!).. I did email HR back to ask what day/hours would be best for them, since there's no "deadline" on the application, and I was told to go in before "the deadline". And, not sure when HR will be in, since they might be off for holiday weekend or something... *sigh* Which means more stress for the next day or so.

Although I am going to see either Hulk, Hancock or Wanted tonight. Don't know which yet. I anticipate probably a Sighting or two... which I'll share of course... yarg.

Suggestion: go in tomorrow (Monday), which is the first day after the holiday weekend. If there was a deadline that has past, well, you missed it, nothing you can do. If the deadline hasn't passed, tomorrow will guarantee you won't have missed it.

Not sure if you've already had your interview or not but bringing up points or stories where you worked well under pressure would be good. Police dispatching can be very fun. It is with out a doubt my favorite job I've ever had. Good luck!

Went in today actually (it hadn't been taken yet, phew), due to timing problems. My car's not legal to drive right now and needed a ride.

I took the first test (typing) and scored 75 wpm with one error! :D

Now I have to schedule the second part. Yarg. Going to call tomorrow since it was past their closing time by the time I got home. Of course the tests had to all be dragged out so I could stress longer.

Yay! Try not to stress too much.
