Hey everyone!

I have an interview Monday for a job at a major moderately upscale hotel chain for a guest relations position. From the description on the app its pretty much a front desk position at an airport hotel.

Any tips for the interview besides the usual? I've been in retail/customer service for the past 5 years and I need to get out of my current job before I lose my mind...

So, basically. Anyone work hotel front desk? What's it like?

Thanks!

Smile, tell them you're people friendly, dress nicely but nothing fancy. A nice blouse and nice slacks is good.

I work at a front desk, along with SmileyEagle and Getoutofmylobby though I've not seen the latter in a while. I think TheHippie also works for a hotel, can't remember.

It's one of the easiest jobs I've ever had, nice and cushy, lots of downtime (so bring a book once you're hired), you'll get to meet a lot of international people (Canadians are my forte, seeing as I speak passible french) and a lot of time you'll get familiar with the regulars (the Road Warriors, as some puts it).

Just watch your mouth if you have a habit of cursing (like myself... :D) and relax. It's a lot easier then you would think and as long as you're cool under pressure, you'll be fine.

.

yes, TheHippie works at a hotel, in Montana... oh and Dekyrose works for Guest Relations at the evil call center that I used to work at.

Um, and if you have reservation experience you are golden (seriously, there are hotels out there that will kill for people with reservation experience, whether it be hotel, restaurant, or even personal shopper... anything that involves accurately getting guest information).

Oh and be prepared, on of the key things about the industry is being prepared for anything... so they will probably throw a few curve balls at you during the interview, expect them and be ready.

Reservations experience is that valuable? Sweet! I'm in reservations for a resort! I've been there since last December. And while I have no plans to leave anytime soon, it's good to know that this will look really good on a resume.

Most of the guests are okay. A few are awesome. A few are SCs. It's no different than retail for me as far as that goes. I can ask a couple of the front desk people, but I think it's pretty much the same for them.
