Okay
I dunno maybe its the new style and I'm just old (29 years old):yes:or maybe it does keep you warm. Okay here in good old **** we are having fall weather. Not really super cold but enough for a sweatshirt and some light weight jeans. Can someone explain to me the scarf thing, you know when girls wear tank tops, shorts and sandals but then wear a scarf wrapped around their neck. I can't imagine it keeps your entire body warm. Then they wonder why they get the plague this time of year.No thank you I'll stick to my light weight sweaters and jeans. I mean somedays its 50* outside in the morning so if you're already wearing summer clothes why would you try to wear something like a scarf.
I wear a scarf in summer...
one of the reasons may be the main vein that runs down the back of you neck (its where you put and ice pack if your over heated or a scarf if your cold
because I take singing lessons I have dozens of the things, if I turned up without a scarf I would be practically beaten espeically if there was a cold wind outside
I can understand your frustration though, I remember working one winter on Robson street Vancouver and girls would come in with mid drift puffa jackets.... the skin would be purple and blue it was so cold, but they had to show skin no matter the cost
I always wanted to ask how many bladder infections they got each winter...

Well thats a little bit different: You have to protect your singing voice, but it has to be a fashion trend I see probadly 50% of the girls doing it.

Don't bother - they wouldn't understand the question or it's meaning.

Oh, there are so many 'fashion' related trends I will never understand.
What's with chicks who wear the big, furry "Captain Caveman" boots (I think they call them 'Uggs')?
I just don't get it... they will dress otherwise normally... then whip out an ugly-ass pair of boots from 10,000 BC.
Why do some guys have to layer Polo shirts (and pop the collar on all of them)?
Let's face it... you look like a douche if you pop your collar. You look like a super-ultra-megazoid douche if you have 2 or 3 popped collars in the same outfit.
Why is it that some women will dress for work in very sensible, reasonable business attire... and then finish off the outfit with a pair of flip-flops on their feet?
I see this almost every day. Women in very smart business suits... until you get to their feet where they look like they are getting ready to enter a prison shower room.
Why do people pay top-dollar for a pair of jeans that are frayed, ripped, faded and look like someone dumped a gallon of latex paint on them?
These are usually the guys with about 3-4 days of scruff on their face and a hairdo that looks like they combed their lovely locks with a greasy chicken carcass.
I wasn't aware that looking like you just came off work as a handyman/housepainter made one fashionable.

I don't get why they pay a couple hundred dollars for them (No offense to anyone on the board who has paid that much for them, I just wouldn't). I bought a pair that looks alot better than Uggs do or $20 at Target. I like mine because they are so comfortable, they really help my ankle that I had surgery on a while ago, and keep my feet warm while walking to class.

Crocs and Vera Bradley bags. That's what I don't understand. And half-jackets.
But that's just me...I'm cheap.

It's just a fashion thing. I don't get the 10 year old girls dressing like lil hoochie mommas.
Nope. Don't get that, OR their parent's at all.

It's a shame they don't put the crocs on the curb for the garbage man to pick up after Christmas is over.
I can see wearing something like that around the house, but I wouldn't wear them in public. Especially when they have dirt and various mystery residues on them :runaway: I have a pair of flip flops that I use when I'm stepping outside to put out some mail or feed the animals, but they don't leave the house for the world to see them in all their nasty wonder.
I don't understand why some girls in the late fall and winter wear a sweater, a vest, a scarf, and a mini skirt.

Flip flops and sometimes also shorts in the winter. You know it's cold when the Blue Footed Undergrad is back in season. Don't ask me about people who forget their outer layers and work and it ends up in the lost and found.

The scarf is a current fashion trend/ accesory. They can be found in a wide range of prices so more people can afford to add them.
As for me . . .if the air is cold I have to wear a scarf or I get sick . . .that may change for the first time this year as I no longer have tonsils or a uvula (dangly thing at the back of your mouth)
Flip flops . . .if dressed nice for work I don't get that. When I am in jeans and shorts . . .I wear flip flops often. If my feet get hot the rest of me is effected. I live in Tx so our summer is mostly over 100 degrees. (sandals tend to cause blisters in back)
Fashion isn't about being understood by all. It is a way to express ones self.
I have seen a lot of changes over the years.
As for the shorts (walking and short shorts) and mini's in the fall and winter they are usually worn with colored or paterned tights in the fashion shows and magazines. So you are supposed to protect you skin from the elements and give a hint of yourself at the same time.
Crocs are great for kids and I think it is a neat way for them to express themselves with the charms. Personally I don't find them comfortable . . .but I would like to try on their fashion line - You by Crocs.
Uggs - I don't get them. They were made fashionable by top models . . .maybe due to such low body fat they needed the extra warmth? I am curvy and don't think they would be flattering on me so I haven't tried them on.
Fashion/ Fads come and go. I don't always get it or follow it. I wear what I am comfortable in and think looks nice on me.
As for other people I have no say on what they wear.
I prefer that they have their bits and pieces covered up. I prefer tee's that are G rated and not the playboy bunny especially if you are under 21. I don't like the hoochie mamaed up little girls. But I can't tell people what to or not to wear.
I have to say, coming from NZ, I have grown up wearing uggs
I have some very very old trashed ones that I wore for about 7 years before they finally died and my foot went through the front of them
I now have pink ones, they are soooo warm and toasty in winter, they stop a leg cramp anyday

This article (http://www.stylelist.com/blog/2006/09/21/the-bad-the-worse-and-the-uggs-trends-that-should-be-trashed/) more or less sums up my feelings on a few more fashion faux-pas.

I dunno I think trends are fine but PLEASE know what does or does not look good on you.I have a pair of a uggs. But I don't wear them much,my legs are short and they tend to make my legs look fat.Just like flare(bell bottom) jeans. I also DO NOT wear leggings, once again I'm short and curvy.Curvy girls please DO NOT wear leggings. I seen a girl all of 350lbs wear leggings.:burneyes:I'm not fat but I have a small waist, big hips and thick legs,so no leggings. Thats the problem everyone thinks they can wear every trend. I like the half sweaters,I think they look good with jeans and dress pants, but not if you have a huge fat roll that stick out right below the sweater. Speaking of fat roll the worst thing I ever seen was woman maybe in her 40's came in Mom acid wash jeans and a old belly shirt. But she had a HUGE fat roll that stuck out.:puke:
A weird thing I've been noticing is college girls clamping a hair climp in some radom place. It is just literally clipped somewhere, not holding hair, just clipped on the side or right on top of their head.
To each his or her own.

I do agree that they probably don't work on fuller-figured people (And I am speaking for myself as well here), but I imagine they probably wouldn't look that bad if worn in the colder months and paired with jeans. However, in the middle of summer in Florida or some other warm climate, paired with shorts or a short skirt . . . :puke: Boots + shorts are a no-no, and I only think they look good with skirts if the boot is of the close fitting kind and not too skanky-looking. But the ugg/shorts combination remind me of when 4-year old boys are in their 'cowboy' phase and just put on their boots and hat with whatever they're wearing at the time :D

I guess now the trend is to pop half your polo shirt collar and leave the rest down. As if popping your entire collar didn't make you look sufficiently idiotic.
(Funny story from work though: One night we truck unloaders were coming down from break and decided we'd all pop our uniform shirt collars and walk to the backroom in a big pack. A customer said as we walked by "Uh oh, here comes trouble!")
As for Uggs and Crocs, some people find them comfortable. I find them ugly myself. But then again I wear Birkenstocks so take that for what it's worth. Some people value comfort over looks.
I can't really wear skinny or straight-leg jeans. They feel too tight on me. I look for bootcut jeans.

Eh, I tend to be "whatever floats your boat" when it comes to fashion. Although, I sat in auditions tonight - and some of these budding young actors need a lesson in proper audition attire. Sweatpants and a sweatshirt aren't gonna impress me. Yes, it really does matter, because it shows a level of professionalism and dedication.
I think Crocs and Uggs are ugly - but, hey, they're the ones walking around with the ugly shoes, not me. Of course, I did NOT have the greatest fashion sense when I was in my teens, so I'm willing to make some concessions and chalk it up to silly youth. After all - I wore really baggy jeans with a tight baby tee and Doc Marten's. Stylin' and profilin'!!

There's a lot of trends I can't wear because of my body type.....I really shouldn't get upset over it but I can't help it.
I can't wear the boots over the jeans thing, because I'm so short and it makes my legs look stumpy.
I can't wear the looser fitting tops because they make me look pregnant.
I mostly wear longer, tight fitting shirts (the kind that look super long on the hanger, but when you put it on and fill it out, it's really flattering and makes your torso look longer, really brings out curves, too).
I have also discovered throughout the years that trying to cover large breasts actually just makes them look bigger. So the harder you try by wearing higher necklines, the bigger you are making your boobs look.

GAH! I HATE that. And so many 'plus-sized' tops are cut that way...drives me up the freaking wall!
Unfortunately, the curvatures of my stomach doesn't really allow for tight tops. Lots of layering and v-necks and cardigans....

Can someone explain to me the scarf thing, you know when girls wear tank tops, shorts and sandals but then wear a scarf wrapped around their neck. I can't imagine it keeps your entire body warm.
Besides being a fashion thing (how do you not like scarves? I love them!), believe it or not a lot can be done for the body by concentrating on just the neck. As someone else pointed out, and as I recently experienced firsthand, keeping just your neck cool on a blazing hot day can actually cool your entire body down considerably. I would imagine (though I don't know) that keeping the neck warm (and keeping heat from escaping the body via the neck) would help warm up the entire body.
I have no doubt that most of the women you are seeing do this are doing it more for fashion than function, but I do believe there IS some function to it!
The scarf is a current fashion trend/ accesory.
Hardly current at all. The scarf has been a hip fashion accessory for years. Hell, I have some old pictures of my mom when she was a young 20 something with a fashionable scarf on a day that didn't require it. And since my mom just celebrated ignored her 73rd birthday, that was some time ago!
Why is it that some women will dress for work in very sensible, reasonable business attire... and then finish off the outfit with a pair of flip-flops on their feet?
I see this almost every day. Women in very smart business suits... until you get to their feet where they look like they are getting ready to enter a prison shower room.
This one I can answer! AND I can answer it despite the fact that I am not a woman, I have never worn female business attire, and I don't own (and in fact despise) flip-flops.
My mother was a secretary executive administrative assistant for about 40 years or so. And generally speaking, shoes that go with "sensible, reasonable business attire" are not always the most comfortable. (I'm not eve talking about high heels....my mom's shoes were always flats or very low heels.) So many businesswomen, away from the office, say commuting to or from the office or on their lunch break, will swap out their professional business shoes for something more comfortable on their tootsies. My mom preferred her white Keds (basic walking sneakers for you youngsters), but I have seen plenty of professional women with sandals and even flip flops. And honestly, it makes sense to me. I know that when I wear my business professional dress shoes for too long, my dogs are barking something fierce, and I can't wait to get into something more comfortable. And I buy comfortable dress shoes, too!
Now, if you've seen these businesswomen wearing flip flops with their business suit while working or in the office, unless their feet are hidden behind a desk all day at work, I have no answer for that!
Boots + shorts are a no-no, and I only think they look good with skirts if the boot is of the close fitting kind and not too skanky-looking.
I would like to politely disagree with you. As a (very) heterosexual male, I have to say that a (good-looking) woman in denim shorts or a denim skirt and boots (say, cowboy boots) is a HOT combination! Even though I'm not into the whole "cowboy" look, this combination does it for me every time! :D

I have scarves (just got another one, actually, purple and black striped), and I've worn one with jeans and a t-shirt because my neck was cold but the rest of me was fine.
I don't understand Ugg boots or Crocs, though my Asst.Mana D wears the Crocs. Says they're comfy.
I'll just reglue the sole back on my shoe when it falls off.

Everything old is new again - is a very common phrase when it comes to fashion.
Scarves have come in and out of fashion (outside of being worn in the winter with coat and gloves and hat - for the actual purpose of warmth) several times in my over 12,000 days.
So calling it a "current" fashion trend is correct . . .5 years ago we were not wearing scarves with tanks and t-shirts just to add color.
In the mid 80's I am thinking it was silk scraves tied a bunch of different ways - verse the yarn knit/ crochet that is hot right now.
(Jester I adore you - and on someone like oh say Jessica Simpson in her Daisy Duke role - yup boots and shorts/ skirts can make a grown man stand at attention . . .however on me - they would be rolling on the ground laughing - all depends on the body shape)

Jessica Simpson was hot. Catherine Bach was hotter.
And in that vein, I still remember a poster I had in my college dorm room for some beer. It was a hot chick with long hair, a tank top, denim shorts, and cowboy boots. Two words. Wow. And WOW. :eyewaggle:

Uggs--if you're in a cold place, yes, yes uggs work. But not with a mini skirt and a tube top. Those girls have GOT to have some smelly feet.
I prefer my tank tops, jeans, and sandals. Comfort clothes.
