I have seen a few people here worried about how they are going to pull off certain costumes. I have been doing costumes for myself for years, and have gotten many compliments on them. Myself and an associate have talked about opening a costume consulting business to help people more challenged than ourselves in that category.
So, I am here to offer my "expertise." Tell me what you want to do, I will tell you how to pull it off economically.
Alternatively, tell me what you have on hand, I'll come up with a costume for you.
Test my talents. I dare ya!

I don't need help but I was amused when I saw the thread list and it said
I need costume help!

(actually they were in the reverse order but it's more amusing this way)

I want to look like this:

Pictures of me are on the CS photo album.
They actually sell Lt. Jim Dangle costumes, but the costumes look really cheap and cost $50 + tax.

I thought you were gonna dress up like a hooker for me :(

Hooker was option #3.
Option #1 was a velociraptor.
Option #2 was Lt. Jim Dangle.

Yeah, I knew that would be amusing. I try, I try. :D

I can help you with the costume, but if you want to look like the dude.....I dunno about that.

Amusingly, hooker would be the easiest, and (very amusingly) the cheapest.

Hookers? Easy and cheap? No way!

Jester, if you want a challenge, you can help me with my costume for a convention next summer.

That's right. I'm building Iron Man Mark III armor.

Error, I am all about details and suggestions. You don't need those, as you are, as you say, building freakin' armor. Sounds like you know exactly what you want, you have an exact model to work from, and apparently you are good enough in what you do to build freakin' armor. My expertise would be of no use here, I am afraid.

Okay.. I've always wanted to do Doomsday. I tried to make a full face mask, but it was beyond my molding skills. I got the sculting down, but the negative mold collapsed mid-bake and I was too angry at having to start over to continue.
SO...
Mr. expert... Perhaps I'm looking at it the wrong way... I was thinking the only way to do that would be a full body suit and mask. How would YOU do Doomsday?
(Just in case you aren't into comics, Doomsday is the monster who killed Superman )

Well, shit.
Seems I may have overstated my credentials here. :o
See, I'm an IDEA guy. I can help design a costume in the sense of "put this with that, add that," etc. Making armor? Sculpting? Molding? Shit, that stuff is completely beyond me.
I'd like to say that after careful thought, I have figured out how you can do Doomsday, but honestly? No. I haven't. You, like the guy making armor, are past where I can help. My talents lie in helping the costume-challenged.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some egg I need to wash off my face.........

Greenday, I think you should do Dangle as a Hooker - see, best of both worlds!

Well cool. Is the offer still open?
I have no idea what to go as and I have around 20 hours till party time as of this post.
I have a santa jacket and wide belt and could use black calf boots to add to that, but don't know what I'd wear on the bottom.
I thought maybe dressing gown and towel = Galazy Hitchhiker. Bonus points if I make a new book cover that says DON'T PANIC in big friendly letters.
But I think it's a bit nippy to wear just a dressing gown!
I have almost zero budget, and almost zero time. I have a pretty standard collection of clothes I suppose - jeans and tee shirts mostly. I have stuffed animals of many descriptions. Thought about a bandaid on one and going as a vet or St Francis but I don't have a white coat or a hemp-like dressing gown. I don't think St Francis wore fuzzy pink.
Considered overalls and a white helmet with black-out visor = Stig. However, the overalls are blue, so I don't know that this would be pulled off.
I have some sporting clothes, but went as a "personal trainer" last time (and actually am one so that's not very imaginative).
Hmm, boxing gloves would help with the "I don't want to snack at this party" thing I have going on too. Don't have silk boxers/bra and wouldn't want to be that open! Do boxers hang around much in blue jeans and a black tee? Anything else I could do with wearing boxing gloves?
I also have bright red overalls, but this is the group that see me in these weekly, so it's not much of a costume.
In case the bra thing didn't twig it, I'm female. :)

Okay, you're not giving me much to work with, but I'll see what I can do.
Not sure what your helmet is like, but there are a couple of possibilities with it. If it's a construction type helmet, wear your overalls and that, put some tools in your belt, bam! Construction worker.
If it's more of a motorcycle helmet, dress all in black (leather's a plus), including gloves, bam! Motorcyclist.
Personally, with what you have, I think the most creative thing would be to go with the coveralls or overalls, anything "farm" like, attach a lot of your stuffed animals to said outfit, and go as a farmer girl. :D
Hey, cut me some slack. My ideas not only cost you nothing and use what you have, but they are all WARM. Not bad for a guy who thinks that it's chilly down here because it's in the SIXTIES!

Just posted this in the other thread but I need help and fast. So like one-fang I have mostly jeans and tees. I've got 2 "party dresses (http://www.pinupgirlclothing.com/daisy-dress-white-cherry.html)" (Both sort of in that syle, one black with polka dots, the other white pinstripe) and a grey skirt. I can pickup accessories on my way in need be.
Oh and I love the farm girl. I would do it if I had overalls

Thanks for the ideas Jester. The party's over, but I'll keep them in mind for next time. :)
PhotoChick if you like the farm girl idea do it with jeans and tee, and add the stuffed animals, a garden fork or other tool, and find a long stalk of grass to be chewing.

Sorry I have not been on more. Halloween was very busy for me, between the Haunted Fort, my personal life (such as it is), and all the :censored: Parrotheads in town.
Re the farm girl, if you don't have a long thing of grass to chew on, a strand of dried spaghetti works just as well. And is probably tastier.
