So, I, for old times sake just dug out two british Gold sovereigns that were given to my by my grandfather, out of curiosity I googled just to see how much any had been sold for
http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220291396260
was the result.
I have two, one a 1869 one and one 1872 one, both of which are in good or even better condition that the ones linked!
Not mint condition, but pretty damned good considering how old they are, no tarnishing and only slight pitting in some parts and some small scratches.
but, I'm never selling them, I'm going to pass them on (if I have anyone to pass them on to that is!) and I'm going to stress the importance to my son or daughter to never sell them and pass them onto their children and press them not to sell them etc etc.
Who knows what years they'll see in the hands (or drawers/cupboards) of my descendants.
