I really did a number on myself today.

I tore the ligament in my knee.

I was carrying my granddaughter in to her babysitter's and didn't realize there was a step down into her apartment.
Suddenly, there was no floor under me and I was going to fall.
It was either land on the baby or land on myself.
Since I'm rather fond of the baby and she's littler than I am, I chose to fall on myself.
My ankle twisted and my knee popped and a red hot searing pain shot down my leg .
Then, I had to go all the way back down a flight of the steepest stairs I have ever seen, only to have to go back up them to bring up the rest of the baby's stuff, and then one more trip back down all on my injured leg.

I went to work, and it was uncomfortable, but when I stopped for lunch, I got up to walk and couldn't.

I tried to work for another half hour or so, but then the pain was so bad, and I was having such a hard time walking that it was exhausting me, so I decided to go to the ER.

I got there about 1:40-1:45 pm and didn't see a doctor until after 5 pm.

They finally did some X-Rays, splinted the leg and made a referral to an orthopedic surgeon for sometime in the next week or so. (They will be calling me.)

Crap.
I am so sick of this!!!

Whose cornflakes did I piss in?

:( I sososososo SO hate ERs. I'm sorry, Ree. I hope you heal really quick.

Thank you.
I hope I heal quickly, too. (I usually don't have complications and normally do tend to heal quickly, so I have that going for me.)

I still plan on heading to Gatekeeper's and to Toronto for the CS meetup that has been planned for the weekend.

My dad did something similar to me when I was 2 years old. It was Missouri, in the middle of winter, he was carrying me back to the apartment after grocery shopping with my mom. My mom was behind him carrying a bag or 2 and all of a sudden she just sees my dad throw me into a snowbank!:confused::roll:

Turns out, he slipped on ice and he felt himself falling forward. Rather than fall on me, he decided the safest thing to do was to throw me into the snow!

Yeah ... I love him.

Hope you're doing better soon Ree! And hopefully the surgery (if you need it, goes smoothly).

Gah! :runaway:

Please feel better soon! You have to bring back pictures from the CS meetup!

Yikes!

EQ's got some good advice there for the leg. Another thing you can do is to take 2 Ibuprofen tabs every 6-8 hours for the swelling/inflammation. It'll also help with the pain a bit until you can get some stronger stuff from the doctor.

Or, if ice packs don't feel too good for you, use a heating pad. Some doctors will recommend heat, others ice packs, so use whichever one feels better for you.:)

And I second the motion - you HAVE to get well soon.

I like to take a less traditional approach to healing. Here is my prescription for Ree this weekend:

1 bottle Pineapple Rum
1 package of Crystal Light
add water, and mix
3-5 warm, purring, soft kitties

bliss

oh yeah and
*psst* happy birthday

LOL!!!

Now that's a prescription I can handle.

*gentle hugs*
Add some warm, fresh out of the oven choc chip cookies and a good movie, and you're golden.
Take care of yourself and get well soon!

I am SO sorry Ree! That hurts -- I've just *pulled* ligaments and it hurt, I can't imagine actually tearing it!

Take care of yourself and be careful and I'll send good thoughts hoping you get better soon!

I have two different prescriptions.

Prescription #1: Plenty of ibuprofen and ice packets applied liberally to the wounded wheel.

Prescription #2: Plenty of coconut rum and pineapple juice over ice (a poor man's pina colada) applied liberally to your liver.

The great thing is you can combine the above prescriptions as needed!

You just reminded me! I have left over Pina Colada mix in the freezer! Coconut Rum it is!

No, you can not safely continue to mix ibuprofin and alcohol. This is bad, m'kay? One liver stressor at a time please.

Hugs, Ree. I'll be your servant for a weekend, if you want! *fetches & carries*

My co-irker busted up his knee, after 5 hours of crawling around on the floor, upgrading RAM in PC boxes. *grumble* I helped him, but I don't think a sore thumb is reportable OTJ injury. His knee was.

Advice? Sit back and have the young'uns help you out. Laser pointers come in handy here...

Well, I'm pissed!

I was supposed to see the orthopedic surgeon at 4:15, but they just called to cancel the appointment, and they will call me at another time to reschedule.

Luckily, I really don't think I tore the ligament, but just pulled it really bad, because right now, the pain is really more of a dull ache that's relieved with slightly less Ibuprofen than I have been taking, and I'm able to move around with only a bit of a limp, unless I have my splint on. There is some pain in my heel and bottom of my foot, and the occasional tingling feeling along the side of my foot and up my leg, but not the major pain that I was in.

I think I will be OK for the weekend.

In fact, probably by the time I see the doctor, it will just be a waste of time.

Oh ARGH. I hate it when they pull stupid crap like that.

Hopefully, they reschedule you quickly. I also hope that you haven't torn anything.
