OK, let's start out by saying, lets keep this out of fratching territory.

Am I the only one who though it looked like former President George W. Bush was giving Mr. Obama a cat butt face throughout the inauguration speech?

And is it wrong that when I saw Mr. Bush giving a cat butt face that I broke out laughing

Aaaaah, Former President Bush. I like the sound of that.

To be honest, I just thought he looked relieved the whole time.

I think he looked irked at some points, but more relieved to finally be going home. I mean, imagine the weight that's lifted off his shoulders.

Hmmmm...you're right he does alwaya have that look. Interesting...

I thought he looked relieved it was all over. And maybe a little bit nostalgic. But he definitly looked irked and unconfortable during certain bits of BO's speech.

*snicker* BO. I love it!

Mod Hat:

This thread has been kept light so far which is great. Let's keep it as such and remember we have Fratching for anything not light.

Thanks folks.

I avoided the inauguration. Did the skies burst forth with a holy light and angels swoop down to place laurels on his head like CNN's been predictiing since last year?

Or did his wife just wear a REALLY ugly dress?

Or did his wife just wear a REALLY ugly dress?

I thought Mrs. Obama looked beautiful yesterday. But then, she's a lovely lady.

Well I wouldn't say it was ugly, but Laura Bush didn't look really good in comparison!

(Remember Mara-Chan keep it light. We don't want the mods to have to close ANOTHER political thread. Thanks!)

I loved both of the First Lady's dresses - the yellow number and the gorgeous white sparkly ball gown.

W looked rather tired, and very cold! Speaking of the weather, was I thy only one worried about the instruments? String insruments and extreme temps= not friends :)

brass instruments and extreme temps aren't the best of friends either (I've actually had a valve freeze before... and tuning in cold weather is damned near impossible).

I felt a little bad for Obama's daughters. They're so young, and all this stuff must have been so painfully boring for them. They've been forced to wear dress clothes for over a year now.

They're awfully cute. How long has it been since there have been children in the White House? Since JFK, or has there been a President with young kids since then?

Chelsea Clinton was around 13, I think, she's a little older than me. But I think JFK was the last one with very young children...as a matter of fact, wasn't JFK, Jr. born during his Presidency? hmmm...

Personally, I thought First Lady Obama looked great. But then, she strikes me as being one of those women who looks confident in anything she wears. I also thought the color was really pretty.

She could probably wear a potato sack and it'd look good enough for other women to start wearing them by the following week.

Apparently the music was pre-recorded for precisely that reason. I'm not sure whether they just mimed playing or what they did.

I think Amy Carter was between 9 and 11 years old when Jimmy was elected. i just pray that the first daughters will not have to go through all the stupid negative press Chelsea got.

now I actually want Ms. Obama to wear a potato sack for that very reason

think we could also convince her to wear a duck tape suit :D

Another thing, and again this is keeping it light.

Whatever you think politically about either Mr. Bush or Mr. Obama, isn't it nice once again to have a President who can actually SPEAK?

Say what you will about his politics, positively or negatively (and say them in fratching), but let's face it....George, Yale-educated though he may be, could not have passed my Arizona State University public speaking class!

That was my very comment. Presidant Obama has a gorgeous voice - strong, confident, and he actually enunciates! No mumbling! (I bet he sings well; singers often develop that kind of resonance. Actors too, but you don't see classical voice training for actors that often anymore, since that is more a stage acting thing than movies. The last three US presidents have all had kind of nasal, thin voices. So have the Canadian prime ministers, sadly).

Also, I am always really impressed by speakers who do not use notes or Teleprompters.

The new President also has a very good "looking bravely into the future" expression and a nice smile. The former President did indeed have a cat-butt face going, and not for the first time! I noticed a lot of the photos of Mr Bush over the last few years have caught him with odd and unflattering facial expressions (sometimes interpreted as puzzlement or whatever, but I think he just has an unfortunate habit of letting his face sort of fall).

I caught a bit while they were all watching the parade. The oldest daughter was trying her darndest to smile and wave but you could see she was exhausted. The little one had her head in her hands and looked like she was ready to *faceplant* at any moment.

True enough, but you can be an excellent speaker with a great speaking voice and still be completely unable to carry a tune. I speak from firsthand experience on THAT one.

And since I have yet to see one story commenting on his singing, which I am sure we would have by now, I tend to doubt it. After all, the media was all Clinton's sax.

(Yeah, I wouldn't advise messing with that lady. She seems to be a very strong person and not at all the sort to suffer fools gladly - or at all...)
