Ok so on the way to drop the daughter off at school this AM I'm listening to the inaguration and then pres Obama's speach. Well the first thing I could think of (they had just mentioned his family, wife and daughters), was that now his daughters can trump anyone in the "my dad can...to your dad" game.

Basically "My dad can have your dad killed"...."My dad has the football (Nuclear Codes)"

Yeah...I'm a little shocked at myself too.

Hehe...my coworker and I went to lunch early because we had a meeting afterwards, and we got down there just a few minutes before he was sworn in. My coworker goes, "I guess the girls didn't have to go to school today?" :p

I wonder if they get to stay home tomorrow...

The 'First Daughters' didn't have school today - but that's because the school had decided to close, even before the election. I wasn't watching the whole time, but I only saw the girls a couple of times.

Ah, that would make sense...

We've been watching CNN and they kept showing them walking with their parents at the parade and whatnot. They're so cute. 'Specially the little one. I'm guessing they're home and passed out by now. What a long day for two little kids.

Yeah, bad taste, but what the hell.

I just have to say that those little girls are very cute and they seem very sweet and well behaved and very well mannered. They seem to have been raised pretty well!

And I'm pretty sure that most schools in the DC area are probably closed EVERY inauguration day, as it's always a bit crazy with the security and traffic and such (this year more than some in the past, but it's NEVER "just another day"). I would guess it's probably like a teacher work day or something of the sort so that parents don't have to worry about the traffic and everything and so that the kids can go and experience the "educational" part of the inauguration.

a good friend from college works in DC and I can confirm that it is pretty much essential services only.

Apparently the girls had some friends over at the White House while Mom and Dad were out at the 10 (TEN!) inaugural balls. It was funny when they were talking about it on CNN, Anderson Cooper very seriously saying, "No confirmation yet on whether the girls are having a slumber party" :p But yes, they are very cute - but look at their parents! Genetics that can't miss.

As a kid who grew up in the DC area I can tell you schools usually DONT close on inauguration day. With all the people and all the road closures Montgomery and DC publics schools closed because they didn't think they could get everyone to and from school in a timely manner. That goes doubly for private schools that draw from further away.
