I've grown a goatee before. That I liked. I've grown a mustache last year. That did NOT look good.
So now...for the first time ever...Greenday is growing a beard. It will just be a regular beard, nothing mustache part at all. I've only been growing it for three days but damnit, I look damn sexy with it already.
I plan on keeping a log on how sexy it looks over time. I'm just curious as to everyone's opinions on facial hair.
Edit: It'd be damn helpful if my room was decently lit (stupid crappy dorm lights) and I had a camera that wasn't my phone.

I have had my current goatee since September of '98, with only twelve weeks TOTAL of clean shaven-ness (6 of those week coming this last fall).
Obviously I am partial to facial hair (my father often had a beard), but sadly, I cannot grow a full beard. My cheeks, apparently, are a facial hair desert, where only the briefest patches of some hardy species of facial hair can barely eke out an existence, with very few neighbors in its immediate proximity.
So shaving around my goatee is pretty freakin' easy. I have been known to shave for the day in under 30 seconds, without even bothering with shaving cream. Zip zip! Done!
I must say, though, that I don't fully get the beard sans moustache look.
And thank you for reminding me that I am in need of a haircut and beard trim. Yes, my hair cutter trims my beard for me. Yes, she is a wonderful woman. Yes, I tip her ridiculously for the extra effort that she does not charge me for.
Because while most of the girls I get involved with do like my goatee, when it grows too bushy, it is just not attractive. Especially since it doesn't grow evenly. (Flirt actually pulled out one errant and longer hair the other night....just reached right out and yanked it out. I was too shocked to even respond.)
But yes, Green, some of us do look much sexier with the facial hair in full bloom. Some of my friends prefer me cleanshaven, but I honestly feel like I look like a bloody monkey with a shorn chin.

It just depends on the person. I have seen guys that I loved it on and others that I wanted to shave them right then and there because it was really really bad. But if you like it and keep it neat, then it's your choice.

The SO and my friend,Tattoo are the kind of guys where they should just keep the facial hair. They look creepy without it.
My ex was one of those guys who should stay cleanshaven. Any type of facial hair did not look good on him.
Someone is gonna have to say this...and it's gonna be me.

I love furry faces. When I was a kid, my Dad had a beard. He shaved it when I was 3-or-4 and come out of the bathroom to surprise RW and I. We both cried because that didn't look like our Daddy. Our Daddy was fuzzy. :p
My SO sometimes grows out a beard. I love his beard. He's dirty blonde (it changes with the season, during the summer it's blonder and during the winter it's almost as brown as mine is) but has a red beard. I love it to bits. It looks good on him, but every time he has an outting with his family, he shaves it all off. :(
That makes me a sad panda.

During the winter I somewhat grow a beard. I mean usually I got about 3-4 weeks between shavings. I don't let it grow too long because I don't want to maintain it, and I don't shave often because it's freaking cold out there. Plus it's just a tad bit of laziness. Honestly though the wife hates it. :p

I'd just like to state that having a goatee is great. It makes me look older than I am (important when working with teens) and it helps keep my face warm on these frosty Alberta days. Plus, I make that shit work! ;)
I had a full-on beard that was easy to maintain but made me look like a hobo. (By the way, never start growing a beard in late July. Trust me.) I've have a goatee since about 2006, when I shaved my beard because I'd lost a bet. It looked weird for the first few days, but I've grown used to it. And recently, a friend posted some clean-shaven pictures of me from about 2003 or so. It's more motivation for me to keep the goatee.

My BF alternates between a beard and clean-shaven. I like him either way, although I'll admit a slight fascination for the beard since no guy in my family either keeps or is capable of growing a beard (military family). I figure as long as it's kept neat, then it's good.

There have been plenty of pictures with me and my goatee on this site.
But if you insist, here's one of me standing in front of a somewhat famous murderer's house (Jeffrey MacDonald, of "Fatal Vision" fame):

I trust you, but I also live in the tropics and used to live in the desert, and have had a goatee in the very warm (here) and ridiculously hot (there) summers, and had no problem with it.
Of course, I am an odd puppy. But y'all knew that.

I could probably grow a goatee if I wanted to, but I don't think I could pull off a full beard. Sometimes, I'll go a few days without shaving, and I'll wonder if I should try to let a beard or goatee grown in, but I always end up shaving it off. I might look good with some facial hair, but in the end, I just don't like the way a hairy face feels.

I love facial hair! Mustaches especially - they tickle and I love that sensation.
Mr. Rum cannot go without at least a mustache (though he does have a goatee, but I'm hoping he shaves it off as no matter what, it just looks scraggly). The reason Mr. Rum needs to have facial hair? If he doesn't, he literally looks like he's 12! It's funny, but he'd be carded in a heartbeat without that facial hair.

I've never been a huge fan of facial hair. Can't quite picture it on you, Greenday...
I used to be friends with a guy who had a full beard when I met him. He looked better with a goatee because he doesn't have much of a chin. One day he shaved off the beard and I almost didn't recognize him when I saw him at work!
OT, I like when people post pics of themselves. It's interesting to see how people look...never quite the way you picture someone...

Personally, I love a well-trimmed beard! My dad usually had a beard and mustache when I was growing up.
There are a lot of guys out there that would look soooooo much better with some (again, WELL-TRIMMED) facial hair--without it, they consistently look like they're caught between childhood and adulthood.
And if you want to see a truly lovely crop of beards, come join me at my local RenFaire. :) Beards, long hair, kilts, Shakespearean bawdiness, the whole nine yards. :eyewaggle:

Amusingly, I get carded even WITH my goatee. Five times carded since my 38th birthday, thank you very much. Clean shaven? Please, bitch! They almost card me for R-rated movies!

Maybe I'm lucky, as that is not a huge problem for me. Or perhaps it has something to do with my very slow facial hair growth. From clean shaven to a respectable goatee takes me a full five days, whereas Dad was the type that would have to shave almost twice a day when he was cleanshaven. He had the whole Nixonian thing going on.
My SO is the same way! His hair is a strawberry blonde and his beard is red.
Without getting too graphic, let me just say that my experience with women who have strawberry blonde hair is very, VERY similar. :eyewaggle:

Tell me about it. Now that I'm no longer available, every single guy friend is coming up to me and tell me how much they like/love me and every freshman guy is hitting on me.

01-26-2009, 05:31 AM
First of all, I AM still available. I am single. None of these recent women in my life has made, to date, any move to take me off the market. That may yet happen, and as a strong proponent of not cheating (38.5 years on the planet, haven't cheated on a girlfriend yet), but until then, I repeat, I AM still available.
But seriously, I did notice during the year I was engaged to The Brit that I was suddenly FAR more popular and attractive to the general female population, and they flirted with me and hit on me far more. And this was not just my perception due to my being off the market and perhaps noticing it more since it was "forbidden," but my friends' impression of the situation as well.
It's a known phenomenon.

MOAO® was *yummy* with a goatee. He tried just a mustache, but it wasn't a good look for him. He's also very good looking clean shaven. *sigh*

The MOTH™ can't grow a mustache, however. He's tried. I laugh at him sometimes.
In the "Look but can't touch" department, the #1 at work boyfriend was/is completely NUMMERS with a goatee. Good thing I'm taken, or else I might've had to climb on him. (He's not bad clean shaven or with a full beard, either.)

Currently and usually I'm clean shaven.
A few years ago I had a goatee, no mustache, and I had it for quite a few months before I shaved it off. I liked to shave it off at times just to see how long it took my wife to notice (normally I have to make a comment, lol).
I cannot grow sideburns or a mustache that looks good. Stuff grows there but it never fills in. Makes me feel better that Jester has a similar problem (sideburns anyway) because I still basically grow the same amount I did when I was 18, just faster.
Oddly enough, I don't have any (good) pictures of me with a goatee. The best ones taken were at a friend's wedding, but I never saw them (professional photographer took them and the bride/groom never invited us to see them afterwards) and they're divorced now so I won't ask.
I recently grew one out for Halloween, but it itched so I shaved. I've been thinking about growing one again, but then I get the "you're too scratchy" when I kiss my wife.
My Dad used to grow a beard every fall and shave it off in the spring. He stopped a few years ago when the beard was coming in all gray.

Personally, I love facial hair - specifically full beards or goatees - plain moustaches - not so much.
It does depend on the person. A few of my exes couldn't grow a beard or facial hair to save their lives, so when some did come in...it looked bad. However, my current interest looks HOT with facial hair.
My dad and my grandfather had facial hair when I was growing up. Dad all the time in the winter would grow a beard. I can remember when I was really little, my grandfather would take my feet and rub it against his stubbly cheeks making me laugh. He did that with all the kids in the family...it was truly our grandpa thing.

I currently have a full beard and moustache (both fairly neatly trimmed). Occasionally I get a bit lazy and develop more of a Wild-Man-Of-Borneo look but not very often.
I have considered a goatee but ain;t sure. However my barber hsa sugggested shaving my hair before the receding bit reaches the bald spot so I might try it then.
At the moment i am planning on attending a Victorian Empire themed wedding in the summer (I'm the best man) so I will need to grow a decent set of whiskers before then and probably shave the beard off temporarily!

I know that my facial hair has the occasional random white--not grey, but WHITE--hair in it. It did when I grew my first mustache at 18, and it does now with my long-standing goatee. I should point out that that is NOT the case with the hair on my head at all. And I don't think I have any more white in my goat now than I did then. Which is, of course, very good.

I had a full mustache and beard once. It was black and curly. My sister told me I looked like a mountain man (picture Grizzly Adams) with it. My GF at the time loved it, but a furnace going *poof* at me while I was trying to get it re-lit ended that. The flames singed everything below the mid-point of my cheek, gave me a pretty decent tan, and melted my robe. Luckily, that was the worst of it, and it didn't touch the hair on top of my head.
I've not grown it back since because it took me almost 2 months to get it to fill out.
I've been thinking about trying to grow a goatee, but given how curly it was, it may not work. Plus, I don't know if the Fiance would be able to tolerate it long enough for it to go soft. She has veeerrrryyyyy sensitive skin, and even a single day's growth sets her off.
