View Full Version : Anyone else familar with Abraham-Hicks

I've been researching and trying to absorb this new way of thinking as put forth by the teachings of Abraham-Hicks...I have just started exploring this, so I don't feel comfortable going into deep explanation because I'll probably screw it up. There is a website out there, just google the name.

Basically, there is one "source" in the universe. In order to achieve the things you want, you have to tune your mind to it and become in vibration with whatever it is. Think positively and actively towards whatever it is and this vibration will line up with this source and good things will happen for you. If you want it, think it, believe it, and this will make things happen. Of course, not by magic...you have to take steps towards whatever it is...but just tune your vibration to it and it becomes easier...

I don't know if that makes sense.

Anyway...there's a message about positive thinking. If you don't want something, and you are thinking about this thing that you don't want...even though you are thinking you DON'T want it...you are 'tuning your vibration' into this thing. You have to focus on what you do want without thinking of the thing you don't want.

So, here I am doing my best to think positively, act positively, be positive and it's hard. I believe I am getting better at it...I just focus on the acting positively part and that should help my thinking fall into place. But, it's not always easy. I'm trying to get to a place where I don't speak, feel, or act negatively...then I'll get to work and there's so much discord among my co-workers and I find myself in the middle of participating in gossip. Or, there's issues going on with my friends and/or acquaintances and I find myself thinking ill toward another.

I guess it's progress, not perfection and I am sure it will get better over time...but I'm really beating myself up for the times I slip back into negative patterns. I start to think that I am taking steps back.

Maybe I'm being unrealistic...but I just thought I'd share this. Maybe someone on this board is familar with these teachings. It's also part of the Secret - the Law of Attraction.

I was just about to say, until I saw your last line, that that sounds almost identical to The Secret. I am a big follower of the Secret and have seen it do some miraculous things for myself and my family.

My stepsister, not long after she gave birth to my beautiful niece, started having grand mal (I believe they are now called tonic clonic) seizures and they found lesions on her brain and diagnosed her with MS. Right about that time my father had her watch the Secret and she watched it over and over. She says she made a decision then and there that she was going to be healthy. She was barely 30, had a new born baby, was only a couple years into a good marriage with a beautiful house and a great job and had a lot to live for. The doctors have been amazed. Since then her lesions have practically vanished, her seizures are no more and her health is great. She still takes her medicine but aside from that she is fine.

I've actually helped a lot of my friends out with problems using the Secret. People often can't see it when they themselves are being negative. They think they are doing their best to be positive but keep saying, "But what if," "Maybe it won't happen," etc. You have to start noticing those thoughts and inserting something positive before it gets out. It isn't easy, it takes lots of practice, but you see the results. You really do.

I'm not trying to pick a fight, and this may be Fratching territory, so mods please delete if you think it's necessary.

Right, so if you want something you really really focus on it but you have to take steps to get what you want...and if you get it, it's because of this 'source' or 'secret' and not because you took steps to get what you want. If you don't get it, it's because you didn't properly attune your mind. Sorry, but sounds like window dressing for a religious cult to me.

A different example, if you will: If you pray (and I mean REALLY pray, deep in your heart/gut/soul want this prayer to come to true) to my ugly ass curtains and take steps to get what you want, you will either get what you want (because my ugly ass curtains are pleased with your prayers) or you won't get what you want (because you aren't good enough, didn't pray hard enough, <insert reason you are a failure>.) So, there you go, the secret to life is to pray to my ugly ass curtains.

I honestly don't see the difference except that my curtains are tangible and this 'source' is not. It sounds more like very basic self hypnosis combined with the common sense suggestion that you get off your butt and work towards your goals. But I'm skeptical like that.

Actually, Scott Adams had some interesting stuff on this subject in the last chapter of The Dilbert Future. He has had some great experiences with written affirmations.

I tend to be a little skeptical, but at the same time, it often seems to work. What do I think? I think that you largely see what you want to see. If you are focused on better things, better opportunities, etc, then you will see them and take advantage of them when they appear. If you had been in a negative frame of mind, the opportunity would still have existed, you just wouldn't have seen it. It's a question of perception.

But, even if it doesn't work, it's sooooo much better to be a pleasant person with a postive outlook. :) ;

The one thing I always say to skeptics is: What can it ever hurt to be positive? :)

I don't say everyone has to believe in this sort of stuff. But even if you don't, better positive than negative.

Not going to delete this, but I am going to close it because if there is a perceived need to "disclaim" a post as potentially contentious, more often than not this is a post that belongs at Fratching. So I shall cordially direct you all there instead. :)

Excellent discussion thus far, by the way - and a great topic.
