And Is it worth buying a PSP for?

Somehow I only discovered the existence of this game 4 days ago, despite being a raging FFVII fangirl. I'm..... quite ashamed actually.

I've just been replaying FFVII and went looking for an FMV on youtube, and I came across a Crisis Core trailer... you can imagine my jaw-droppedness as an obsessive FFVII fan who had never heard of CC and spend much of the late 90's obsessing over the game and even bitching about how they didn't tell us enough about Zack. (For real, I'd always said that).

Anyway, is it good? I can't watch any more trailers or reviews because they tend to have spoilers in them, I think they don't realise that the viewers may actually have some slight powers of deduction. I think I can already guess one pivotal moment in the game, which is a shame because if it's what I think, it would have made me cry had it been a surprise. Sometimes it's hard not being a complete idiot. :(

so, do i drop $300 to play it or do I wait until it's cheaper?

I have -no idea- How you didn't hear of Crisis Core being a fangirl, but no. It's not worth it. Just watch bits and pieces on Youtube, I promise. The gameplay is boring, the plot makes very little sense, there are random characters added in that just seem like they're there for fangirls, and egh. The only thing good about it is that they kept certain scenes from FF7 the same, and the pretty graphics. 95% of the gameplay is the same sidequest. Over. And Over. And over.

I was quite disappointed with it. And I love FF7 ridiculously much.

I think one of the issues with this "Universe of Final Fantasy 7" that square is putting out is that the FF7 world was WAY better when we didn't know everything and when things weren't explained.

Sadly, Crisis Core continues the trend started by Advent Children* which melds bad storytelling with over the top graphics. I clocked about 8 hours on Crisis Core and finally gave up. It plays like a 3D secret of mana but relies heavily on the battle system to be the focus of the game. What I mean by this is that the story is pretty shallow and you spend most of the game doing 'missions' which is basically a set of battles followed by a boss. Generally the focus of an RPG should be the storyline, not the battle system. Battle systems are nice but they are rarely polished enough to make a whole game around them, and even then you'd want to be able to play a game like that with friends.

So yeah, not worth it. In general the PSP isn't worth it.

*Grumble all you like. AC was a bunch of smoke and mirrors for me.

...Alrighty, here's my take. I bought and still have Crisis Core. I never watched Advent Children, but I didn't like Dirge of Cerberus. Here's what you need to know about FF7CC. It's repetitive, levelling up makes NO sense, the combat is somewhat bland. That said, I love the story, level of quality in graphics/animation, and the soundtrack isn't too bad either. If you LOVE FF7, you might want to pick it up, but not new.

If you hate repetitive gameplay, I'd say try to find it for $20 or less, otherwise, $30 or less should be a suitable price. About the only reason I haven't beaten it is because I started getting hooked on other stuff and just never really came back to it.

Yeah, FFCC was one of those good distraction games that I sort of forgot about when something else better came along.

Try to find a cheap used copy...it has it's good points and it's bad. It was entertaining for me, but it would have nice if they did a better job on it. I don't think I'd buy a PSP just to play the game, TBH.

So I give it like a 2 out of 4. It's okay, but not great. You aren't missing much.
