One of the things I love about spring time is open windows and loud stereos. I really love it when someone pulls up next to me and has their stereo so loud that I can't even hear mine (often with my windows up). The sound of vibrating metal is way cool.

I only hope that stereo manufacturer's have put warning labels about hearing loss all over the place. I would hate to think that idiocy will be subsidized.

Forget about the hearing issues, what about the disruption of heart rhythms and de-tuning of the vehicle? And worse than hearing loss: Tinnitus.

I suspect that blasting your music like that is a long and very slow self-Darwining.

I'm already very paranoid about my car. Any smell or noise drives me into paranoia. I immediately think it's my car about to blow the big one, and panic.

I was in the McDonalds drive-thru a few weekends ago, behind a car with an obviously extremely powerful and expensive system in it. I should have known better.

But me, being overly paranoid, thought all that rumbling and bumping was my car proceeding to run like shit and the engine trying to kill!

Like I said, I should have known better. I should have. But this system was so powerful.....the rumbling was so loud and powerful that it didn't even sound like bass.

There are plenty of people like that locally. In many cases, their sound system cost more than the car did :rolleyes: 9 times out of 10, it's some shitbox Honda Civic or Chevy Cavalier (or Cobalt), blasting gangsta rap, and being driven by some stupid white kid from the 'burbs :rolleyes:

All these fools are doing is drawing more attention to themselves. People aren't thinking "Oh, that's a cool ride!" Instead, they're rolling their eyes and going "turn that shit off!" Even better, is that it gives the cops another excuse to pull them over :lol:

Oh, and if I wanted my car to "thump," I'd jam a screwdriver into the exhaust :p

Saw one of them today stopped at some traffic lights, and all I could think was 'Why would you advertise the fact you're driving that old rustbucket?' At the very least, they want to go get some proper music.

I have a somewhat decent sound system in my Jeep. Sub-woofer in the centre console is quite groovy:D

Hubby and I are tempted to take the top off and drive down one of the known "doof-doof", wanker driving areas and blast "Flight of the Valkeries" or some other piece of classical music at full volume. :devil:

Personally, if I cant hear my engine over the music - It's too loud

In my area it seems to be mostly Civics with a huge spoiler that doesn't match the car or mid 90's Explorers.

Last summer a new store opened in our plaza. One of the employees must have been getting rides to and from work because twice a day a Civic would come thru the lot blasting music. You could easily her the rattling metal over 300 feet away.

One day they arrived early to pick up said person and sat in the fire lane for 20 minutes blasting the music. A cop on his regular patrol "stopped" him and discovered this idiot had a suspended license, no insurance and a warrant. He got arrest had his car was towed. Haven't seen him since.:lol:

I must admit, I am one of those who likes to jam out. I do, occasionally, enjoy the good booty-shaking song as well. When I am at a light, though, I turn my music down and/or roll up the windows. Today, for instance, I couldn't bear to turn it down, so I rolled up my windows. I think some people still heard it, though - I got some odd looks. Guess they aren't used to hearing Duran Duran that early. Hungry Like a Wolf, if you are curious. :lol:

Before you worry about my hearing, I must admit I ruined it years ago already. That's part of why I like my music so loud. That is also why I try to be considerate of others' hearing, as well. For the record, it is not a good idea to go to raves and sit in front of the speakers for hours on end. :o

Edit: Wanted to add - I drive a mini-van with a factory stereo, nothing fancy or crazy. Maybe that's part of the weird looks. :lol:

No, here it seems to be the glasspack pipes that absolutely HAVE to be in EVERY. SINGLE. PICKUP. that make them 800x louder than stock, and then flooring it at every intersection, in between stopping in the local parking lots and having little battles with their friends taking turns revving to see who has the louder truck, before they both speed off flooring it as loudly as possible, only to re-connect at the parking lot at the opposite end and have another little battle with another friend to see who has the louder pickup. While they both jerk off, I assume. :rolleyes:

Now they've started to do it to their four wheelers and motorcycles. It's so friggin annoying. It annoys me and makes my ears bleed even worse than an Adam Lambert performance.

It seems to have lost some steam here. You don't see as many of those wannabe sports cars now. But, what remains...needs to go away. In fact, I got to see a ricegirl the other night. Her (4-door) Pontiac had all the tricks--fart can, monster stereo, wing, etc. Oh, and the interior was painted lovely shades of yellow, red, and orange :eek: Her ride was at one extreme--most of the usual rice just has rims, a fart can, and a body kit.

I never really understood some of those fools. Usually, when you change your exhaust, you do it for performance. But, why is it that *every* 1970-1980 Chevy or Ford pickup sounds like a piece of shit? They all sound like they either need a ring job, or that the engine is going to explode soon :rolleyes:

...and this is coming from a guy who has a car with a loud exhaust. But, that's how the car was originally, and yes, I do run a glass-pack on it. That's not the only reason it's loud--there's no overdrive, and with only 4 gears to play with...you don't have much choice :p
