Coming from from chum's at stupid o'clock last night/this morning, I had to use the motorway. We've got signs on the central reservation that sometimes light up with extra restrictions. Usually they're massively outdated.

They'll still be on a 'fog' warning when the last possible fog was before the sun rose, and right now the evil daystar is beating down like a nuclear furnace spinning in outer space. Usually they're used for speed restrictions in areas where there's been a problem - that sort of thing. Often, there's nothing to see.

Normal limit is seventy on those roads. I saw a central reservation sign for a speed limit of fifty. Hah - obviously outdated, right?

You know how cars are designed to crumple on the front end to protect the occupants? Let's just say that the car on the other carriageway had gone the extra mile in that regard. Woke me up.

The sun is a mass of incandescent gas, a gigantic nuclear furnace,
where hydrogen is built into helium at a temperature of millions of degrees.

On Topic, do you mean the whole car was crushed, with no chance of any survivors?

The main part wasn't too badly dented, though I was going past at fifty mph, so I didn't get much of a look. There were plenty of police around - they even closed that section of the motorway down, so it must have been bad.

That's standard when the vehicle is immobile, it gives the recovery agent safe space to clear the road.

It's bad when the other carriageway is closed (for the air ambulance to land).

I've also seen both directions closed for a jackknifed big rig that looked like the trailer tried to grind the concrete dividers. They had to bring in a decent sized construction crane for that one.
