so here's a funny story related to me by my boyfriend not too long ago.

*warning: mild stereotyping ahead*

so my boy's in the navy. and he tells me some stories of his, and his..."coworkers(?)" interactions with civilians. they had a convoy going down the road somewhere on one of the freeways in town and an *ahem* african american...well...gangbanger type wanted to be in the lane that the convoy was in. in fact, he wanted to merge into the middle of the convoy.

let's just say that's not allowed.

the guy looks up at the driver of one of "duce and a halfs" (*big* truck) and does the arms up face angry "wut" expression typical to afric...*cough* black gangbanger types. the driver of the truck, my boy's friend, looked at the guy and shook his head.

no way he's getting in.

so the gangbanger type pulls out a hand gun and puts it in his lap like he's gonna shoot the truck driver and does the "wut" expression again.

...REALLY!?

so the truck driver picks up his big scary military gun who's name i've forgotten and shows it to the guy with a :confused: expression on his face...like "wtf dude..."

the other driver quickly exited the freeway, never to be heard from again.

Not to get off-topic (or fratch), just wondering what the gang-banger's race has to do with it? After all, this attitude/behavior is stereotypical for that entire group regardless of ethnic background. Just sayin'.

THAT is why my brother was really hoping that his unit at Ft. Campbell would get called up to help battle the LA Riots back in '92. He was in the Army at the time and said that they were gonna send his unit there if the rioting didn't stop.

Either the -16 or the M-4, the carbine version of it.

(Carbines are chopped down rifles, very basically, and more suited towards close-in engagements, sacrificing accuracy and hitting power at a distance for a lighter weapon that's easier to handle.)

'bangers are so used to intimidating those around them that I guess he couldn't quite wrap his head around the fact that he was facing a better equipped and better trained "gang."

gotta agree with sttm though. coulda been ANY race creed or color of gang member. saying which particular kind adds nothing to the story at all; dumb comes in all flavors.

I agree with those who have said that race has absolutely nothing to do with this driver's behaviour. As such, we are going to now drop the subject of race altogether. There is no need to post agreements or disagreements. That line of discussion is now finished.

Dumb move on the gangbanger's part. Even if it had been the civilian equivalent of a deuce-and-a-half, with the driver not having an M-16 at hand, the truck driver would still have been armed - with a multi-ton battering ram. Pulling the pistol is a threat with a lethal weapon, so it would have been a legitimate act of self-defense to squash the gangbanger and his car against the centre divider.
