I've been invited to a fancy dress party mext week.
As it's short notice and I'm working all week i haven;t time to make a fancy costume so i am stuck between two choices. The theme is TV and film characters and they are asking people to pick ones that people will recognise. Something to do with the party games apparently.
Bear in mind, i am six foot two and a fairly portly chap.
First option is a monk. I have a tunic that was made for a medieaval charity weekend a couple of years ago. I'm thinking that with a white rope round the waist, a tankard tied to the belt, big cross round the neck and a rustic staff to make me into Friar tuck.
Second choice is my tuxedo with my full length 1930's opera cloak and face paint, fangs etc to go as dracula.
Or finally, as above but with a mask instead of face paint to go as the Phantom of The Opera.
Option one lets me wander round muttering bless you my child, option two gives me the chance to ravish any pretty young ladies that are there whereas option 3 lets me burst into song at the drop of a large black floppy hat!
Any advice?

i'd say go as the phantom. you can ravish young ladies with that one, as well as sing. it's pretty much a win-win.

Dracula is so over done.
I'll say the phantom.

Fifthed -- Phantom. Now that's a guy that can make me weak in the knees.
I think I'll go dig out the cds and listen to the musical sound track now. RaWR.

Do option 2 and add some glitter, then you can be a Stephanie Meyer vampire...

nooo..... phantom and vampire are over done ...
If you go as a friar, you can flirt with all the girls/boys/whatever trips your trigger by telling them that you can sell them an indulgence allowing them to fornicate without worrying about their mortal soul =)
heck, make up a whole bunch of indulgences with the name left blank =) then you can offer them to people!

If you do Phantom, you could always do the Lon Cheney version - much scarier and more accurate to the source text.

Assuming that you are limited to those actions based on those costumes (and personally, I don't see it that way), how can you not choose the option that allows you to ravish women over the option that has you blessing people or singing? I mean.....seriously?
Me, I would go as a vampiric singing monk, but I have neither your height nor any singing ability whatsoever.

I know this might be too late, but what about a zombie monk?
A ripped robe in the right places, some blood and makeup and voila! bless people that their brains will be juicy...

I should clarify that when it comes to singing, I have been described as tone deaf, flat as a fart and couldn;t carry a tune in a two handled bucket!
I discovered today that my wing collar shirt no longer fits me and i can;t justify splashing out on a new one (they're expensive in "big fat fella" size) for one party so I am going to have to be the monk.
I shall post pics when we are ready. (party is next saturday)

Phantom!
And if you run into someone of a more literary than broadcast media frame of mind, you can become the dashing Walter Plinge!
edit: oops - too late. Friar Tuck away good sir!
(Or to really soup it up you could wander around the party straightening things and putting down coasters. When asked who you are, reply - "Monk!")

Alternatively, you could go in the monk robe with your hands in handcuffs. When asked what your costume is, of course your answer would be "Felonious Monk."
(Jazz fans will get this!)

I know it's after the party and all, I just wanted to say how damn cool it is that you have an opera cape.
