View Full Version : Taking Bets on My Apartment's Cleanliness

Well, I've narrowed down the source of 95% of the dirtiness of my apartment: the middle roommate and his girlfriend. (There are three bed rooms. A room for two, then a single room, then a room for two which I'm stuck in. He has the middle room to himself) Whenever this guy and his girlfriend cook, they leave all their dirty dishes in the sink until it piles up. It smelled RANCID yesterday. The living room was moderately bad. I cleaned up the living room. Another roommate and I had a discussion and he asked the offender to clean and so did I so him and his girlfriend finally did. Then they somehow manage to make the living mad dirty. I haven't been able to figure it out yet.

So, it sounds like they are cooking right now. There was nothing to previously wash so they can't be washing something. Start placing bets now. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being worse than a tornado, 1 being spotless, how bad will the apartment get from him and his girlfriend tonight?

Can you tell I'm frustrated? I'm going to reslife on Tuesday when classes started to see if there is any single room openings in the apartments. I have a few other issues with these guys and while they are nice, they can be really inconsiderate at times (like late night parties on nights before we have classes, parties without warning me [it's a dry campus so I don't want to be caught at my apartment when there are a bunch of underage kids drinking alcohol. guess who gets fined for providing alcohol to minors?])

Good luck on that Greenday.

And my vote is a solid 9. You MIGHT still be able to see the floor!

My vote is a 6. Not that I underestimate the ability of these two to muck things up. It's just that I have seen some horrible, horrible places, and I know how bad it can get. And it takes more than one cooking session to reach level 10. Much, much more.

And yes, it sounds like you need a new place, either with no roommates or, at worst, different roommates. Because this does not sound like a match at all for you.

Good luck!

For all intents and purposes, my apartment was turned into a frat house by the other four residents.

6 was a good guess. That's where I'd put it. I should probably head to res life today to check for openings for a single in a different apartment so I don't have to share a room.

I've seen a 10 in a residence.

We actually had to have a haz-mat team come in to clean it. No, I'm not joking or exaggerating. By the end of the semester there was levels of filth that our regular cleaning staff absolutely refused to touch, and we had to call in a special company, and they wore the suits and everything.

So I suppose a "10" would be like "Hoarders" (on A&E) bad? :p I think I'm with Jester on this one.

And I feel your pain...I had a professional cleaner come to the condo over the weekend just because the grime and filth keeps piling up no matter how hard I try. I live with my boyfriend and 1 roommate. Roommate says "wow it must be nice to have that kind of money" when I tell him I hired a cleaner. Um, NO, I would like to spend it on other things, but when you leave dirty dishes out overnight that tends to attract the critters and bacteria. So it's cheaper than an exterminator. He did chip in eventually since they cleaned his room and bathroom, but still...ugh. He moves out in April and it can't come soon enough!

Didn't mean to derail, just had to vent. I hope you can get a single!
