View Full Version : Stargate Universe rant (spoilers)...

I just started watching season 1 of SGU (heh, like here's any others now?) and I have a bit of an issue / rant.

Chloe.

What the f*** is up with her?

OK, I get it, her father dies. fine, that's enough to mess anyone else up. Fine, I'll give her that.

But - is it just me or is she just a whiny little baby? ALl she does is complain.

Also, early in the series she's "with" Lt. Scott. I don't have an issue with this but when she goes back to Earth (using the communication stones) she gets pissed at her best friend who is now dating her BF (well, now ex-BF). If you're cheating on your BF then don't get all whiny-drunk crybabyish when he's cheating on you.

Add in the fact that she's just teasing Eli whenever she can. Oh, she needs him for this, she needs him for that (plus she threw in the overly common "good friend" speech to him).

He should give her a good ass kicking but he's too nice of a guy to do it.

She's died twice and I was happy to see that but NO! We have to use the hold "active stargate though a sunspot" trick to go back in time so she doesn't die, either time.

I have to say she's my least favorite character.

Non rant:

I've noticed in all the Wikis they've added species to the character's biographies. Now, they're all human - is this a hint at things to come later on?

We've had the first 10 episodes here in th UK. And I have to say it is dull. It is barely Stargate, it seems closer to Voyager. There is no aliens, no enemy, little internal conflict and no humour. Oh and has no one pointed out the moral quagmire of letting someone go back to Earth and use someone else's body to have sex?!

Does it get any better?

Internal conflicts: Col. Young vs Col. Telford. Rush vs. Everybody. Civilians/IOA vs Military.

SPOILER ALERT
Young leaves Rush behind on a desert planet where a crashed alien vessel has been found, and that's the mid-season cliffhanger. Aliens and enemies are coming up rapidly, I think.
END SPOILER ALERT

All in all, I like the show. Still hate time travel episodes of anything, mainly because it's been done well so very very few times. But the rest of the series is hanging together well, I think.

Chloe has been a little annoying, but she did step up in 'Justice' so I'm still on the "wait and see" boat.

Does it get any better?

Well we've only aired the same number of episodes as the UK has so idk. We don't get the back half until April I think. I'm still giving it a chance, I'm enjoying, but it has yet to make me love it. Then again I didn't have episodes that made me love the show in SG1 or SGA till the second half of their first season. Give it time, most shows take a season to gain their footing.

I'd rather have SG 1 back, even with the Series 10 Cast, rather than any spinoffs, hell, I can still remember sitting down to watch the first episode when it was first released, plus I loved the original opening sequence with the statue of Ra

I have two big gripes with SGU. The firs is how un-Stargate like it is. As has been pointed out, it's the Stargate equivalent of Star Trek: Voyager, just with a larger and more unstable Maquis contingent (ie, military outnumbered by civilians).

The second is that they seem to have painted themselves into a corner with the mid-season cliffhanger. I dont' want to give away too much, but it seems obvious that Rush is going to live, and after that I don't see how either he or Young can be trusted by ANYONE on the ship, EVER again.

spoiler taken out. :)
END SPOILER ALERT

We all know that won't last. :)

I don't know.

SPOILER

While it may seem obvious Young may lose credibility if what he did to Rush comes out don't forget:

1) He STILL has the Keno footage of Rush taking the gun - he told Eli top copy it onto his drive and then delete it.

2) Rush knows that Young knows what he did but is keeping it quiet so if he comes out with what Young did then Young can easily point out that Rush was trying to frame Young and cause rifts in the crew. It's hard to argue with Keno footage.

END SPOILER

You're right about one things, it is a lot like Voyager (not many differences). the first half of this season was a little bland, oh a problem, we'll fix it at the last minute. Another problem, we'll fix it at the last minute (of course, so many series are like this). Hopefully they'll get the ship fixed up more and we can start to see a real series come out of this.

Chloe did step up in Justice, I'll admit that.

Although it is like Voyager, I find it less entertaining. The episodes seem to be running out of sir, running out of water, running out of food....

The only alien threat has been a swirl of sand, and one episode was spend wandering around in the desert.

I want to like it. The characters are sympathetic. The situation is full of potential. But it is dull.

i stopped watching after about the 5th episode. i was so disappointed. once it pops up on netflix, i'll probably catch up...mainly because cap'n mentioned they brought back jack *swoon*

as for the voyager similarities...i dunno...i kinda grew up on voyager and while i do see some parallels, sgu is much dryer and less fun. then again, i only watched a few episodes before i lost hope so i shouldn't really say much ^_^
