I love the semi anonymity of the internet sometimes :)
My boyfriend would like me to have a little less hair "down there" but after doing my own "trimming" when I was a teen, I'm a little apprehensive as to what the grow back will be like. Last time it was rather uncomfortable, can't really remember how it was uncomfortable, it was a wee while ago.
So, I was thinking going for the whole whack waxed (brazilian at my local beautician who does my legs) if I do. Is there something else I could try/do? I'll let your dirty minds figure out why.

I shave!
First, make sure you clean up very well. From there, you can use several methods. Personally, I use a razor. So far the only problem I've had with it is the fuzz growing back. It itches but that's normal. Just make sure you have a razor that is at least 3 blades and MUST have those little wires going across the blade. It really cuts back on the razor burn and the little cuts.
Used to, I would use Veet. It gave me a clean "shave" and the fuzz growing back wouldn't itch so much. But the hair is so thick, it would take several minutes longer than the longest suggested time. Also, on the container it says not to use near... um... sensitive areas. Also, if you leave Veet on your nails long enough it'll get... scary. Makes them soft and they flake and it's just not pretty. Takes a couple months for your nails to get back to normal too.

I used to shave, but my current bf prefers closely trimmed (he hates the stubble). Honestly, I prefer that, too. Shave bumps and ingrown hairs are NOT fun.

I despise shaving.
My hair and nails grow very quickly, so if I'm clean-shaven at 7am, I'm starting to itch and get uncomfortable by 10. Not a fun way to spend the day.
Trimming, on the other hand, is so much nicer, in my opinion.

i use this (http://www.shopinprivate.com/coocshavexge.html) stuff and one of these (http://www.quattroforwomen.com/product_trimstyle.php) with this (http://www.gizmosforgeeks.com/wordpress/uploads/2008/08/schick-quattro-trimmer.jpg) kind of blade. i use the dude's blade because it has a single blade on the edge to do shaping. it's a pretty good combination. i put lotion on after and i rarely itch. keep the blades fresh and the area properly lubed while shaving and you shouldn't have too much irritation.
also, if you keep up with the routine, shaving twice or three times a week, any itch you do experience will fade. your skin will get used to it.

The few times I've shaved I've found a mirror to be very helpful.
Although now, I prefer to just let DH trim it for me!

Oh, and always, always, always use shaving cream. Don't cheap out and use soap. Just. Don't.

In my experience it's totally worthwhile, my BF and I both enjoy my lack of hair.
Personally I shave, but it's for lack of being able to afford waxing.

i don't think i could wax my lady bits...i used to wax my legs and even that's too much for me. so lady bits? nuh-uh. i'd rather deal with shaving every other day than have every hair pulled out.
'sides...i find it oddly therapeutic to shave. it's so methodical and almost rhythmic.

That's the way I feel every time I shave my legs. Bad day? Rough day? Just take a hot shower and shave the legs! It takes consentration (I have fine hair on my legs to begin with) so I can just block out all my problems for a short while.

so i'm not the only one that thinks that...welp, that makes me feel better. The Boy once questioned why i took so long shaving. i poked the spot on his chin he missed and told him "that's why." running my hands over my legs to make sure i didn't miss a spot (and checking for leg cancer of course) is one of my favorite parts :p

Can if you want Plaid :)
So on the irratibility front if I decided not to keep up the visits for waxing, like I don't really keep up with them for my legs?
I might try the shaving after, the only thing I've ever shaved is underarm, legs have never seen a razor, and everybody who has waxed my legs looked at me as if I was weird when I said I first touched my legs at 18, and they've only seen wax since.
I've always said the worst thin about dating is shaving
At least I onlt have to shave on the weekends....and if we go camping again I can forgo the evil razor

I've often wondered.... would it be easier to use a man's beard trimmer to neaten up that area? Even before finishing off shaving that area. I've not done it myself, but considering the hair is thick and sometimes as coarse as a beard, it should work just as well. Anyone try that?

When I shaved, I used the stuff that Green Fairy linked to. It's fabulous! No itching, no razor burn, no ingrown hairs--it's just like my legs.
Now I'm lazy and just trim with an el-chepo beard trimmer from Walmart.

I trim. Shaving drives me up the wall, because of the itchiness when it grows back. Haven't gotten a complaint yet.

One thing to keep in mind about a brizilian wax is yes, it hurts at the time, but it grows back thinner. If you keep up with the touch-up waxes, or sahving as it grow back it's not too bad.

that's why i use this (http://www.quattroforwomen.com/product_trimstyle.php) with this (http://www.gizmosforgeeks.com/wordpress/uploads/2008/08/schick-quattro-trimmer.jpg) blade. it's basically a beard trimmer, just water proof. and as i said earlier, i use the men's blade for shaping...why they don't have the same edger on the women's blade is beyond me.

I'm paranoid about waxing even my underarms or bikini line. Why? Because I BLEED when I try. So I've switched to shaving. I managed to kill my handle, so I bought an electric shaver (battery power) recently. I highly recommend it. I don't get the ingrown hairs that I got when I tried shaving with my razor, and it works better, except for my underarms where it doesn't work as well.
Be warned - it looks really odd, and I still have a hard time getting used to it. (I still don't care for it, which makes poking around down there really fun, however the poking is necessary since I can't get pregnant until AFTER my X-rays). Women are not supposed to have dangly bits dammit.

I also shave/trim most of the time and I have found that as it grows back now I no longer itch at all. Not too long ago I invested a tiny amount of money in one of those little tiny shavers they advertised on TV - that has the little eyebrow thing & my parter & I both have found that to be quick, painless & very affective - whether she is doing the shaving or I am.

I feel so bad for those of you with thickets down there. If only the hair on the rest of me was as sparse as it is down there.

My father's family has French and German roots. I have more hair on my body than my mother and all three of her sisters combined.

German/Italian.
I know exactly what you mean.
Used to shave. Haven't maintained in a long while, and probably should, but never really find the time.

If you can handle the pain, go with wax. It itches less coming in and there are fewer ingrown hairs. I however am a complete pansy and can't deal with wax. Ergo I trim for regular up keep and fully shave when I want an extra boost of confidence. Kind of like wearing sexy matching underwear, no one but you knows you're wearing them but you feel like you can take on the world.

Awesome! Thanks guys!
Thanks for the tip shankyknitter, I was starting to think I would just go with the shaving, but since getting my legs waxed could almost put me to sleep, I think I could go at least one try with the wax :)
Also, going to the thread on flavoured condoms, bf and I got the the same conclusion at the same time, he had been speaking with a friend, I believe they are now on a shopping list somewhere :)

I'm too poor to afford a nice electric razor. So I stick with the cheap disposable ones (with three blades) and shave carefully. ;)
But thanks for the tips. If I can I'll invest in that shaving lotion.
