I had a customer recently come into our store. And now while we aren't expensive on everything things that are not our store's focus are more expensive than going to say Wal-mart.
So this guy came in and bought one of these more expensive items. Of course he said something about the price, and I said we can't sell it as cheap as wal-mart because we don't sell nearly the volume they do. The guy then said. No it would be cheaper if you "towelheads" would stop buying up all the stores.
Now last time I check I was pretty white. I mean sure I got brown hair, but I'm pasty white.

I've been called a "N****r" by people more than once while at work (at least once was in jest but the rest were from customers so God knows). I've also been called a "Mick" a "Wop" and a "Guido" (which are all applicable I suppose) and an assortment of other names. People have called me "fag(got)" "gay" and other impolite references to homosexuality, though I am straight (I suppose these are meant solely to offend, not really to degrade me for choices I may or may not have made). I've also heard more anti-Semitic references than I care to mention, mainly because the store owner is Jewish. These references have very rarely (but on occasion) been aimed at me.
P.S: I am white, 1/4 Italian and at least 1/2 Irish (there is some dispute about the other 1/4, but it is not Italian apparently).
P.P.S: Black, homosexual, and Jewish I am not.
P.P.P.S: Sorry for the long post and the many PS's.

this would be more of a sighting but kinda amused me. i visited my middle school when i was in gr 11 with a friend. Apparently the school had gone down the craphole and was basically home to the next generation dumb gang members. So after we talked to some old teachers and said our farewells we headed out.
in the parking lot was a bunch of 8th graders or so startin a fight. a white kid and an asian kid. the white kid called the asian one a N***** :wtf: this was shortly followed by a 19yr old black guy randomly walking by who promptly decked the kid once. Me and my pal kinda just left since teachers had seen the incident.
moral of the story? If you are dumb enough to call people racial slurs at least have the shred of intelligence to make it the right one >.<
I got a lot of...apparently, very racist old folks at the gas station. When they thought I screwed them out of something, some would call me a "Damn Jew". They're the same ignorant old sacks of shit that would blatantly outburst with "Look at that dumb negro out there at the gas pump!" when they saw a black person.
Last time I checked, I was German, not Jewish.

one day i was called a commie basterd, a red, and all sorts of slurs, but the first time i spoke russian to a russian speaker it was so bad they laughed at me.

Lessee, I got called a kraut once. Surprisingly on target that one. Same with dirty frenchie. I'm half german with a goodish portion of french thrown in for flavor.
At the call center job, I've been called many many things, varying from 'stupid indian' to 'towelhead' to 'inbred hillbilly expletive deleted'. Which I find ironic, as I've never heard an Indian accent that sounded southern...

The weirdest thing I can really remember is a woman told me I was being a "racist" once because I kicked her son out of the store. What made it weird was that she and I are both white.
MMATM- I've also been called a Wop a few times- my ancestory is Sicilian. Well, and Scottish- I have enough of the bloodline to 'legally' wear the plaid of my ancestor's clan.
But honestly, I'm all American. I would never even think to answer a question about my natioanlity as Italian or Scottish- I always say American.

I got called a "honky" by a co-worker who happened to be white.
While technically it is accurate, I thought honky was a term used by Black people to describe whites.
Somebody else called me a "gook". I can't recall even have any ancestors from Asia.

HA! "Hey, I'm a Mick!"
Sounds like my favorite SCA fencer story...couple rapier fighters in garb ended up in a bar or a quick stop or some such thing, wearing their poofy shirts and high boots and whatnot. Cue obligatory redneck:
OR: What do you assholes think you are?
One of the Rapier Guys: Faggots!
Hey, they had swords. I guess they figured "Bring it." ;)
No, if I get racial insults thrown my way, they seem to be pretty much spot on. Except for the "witch" thing (from another post). I'm not a witch. I get mistaken for a plethora of other races, but rarely do I get anyone insult me to my face because of it. I've been mistaken for hispanic, jewish, spanish, native american, and partly black. Which is weird, because while I am olive-skinned, I am very pale complected.
Been called a "lezzie" plenty of times. Not only am I straight, but it does not bother me to be mistaken for a lesbian. I don't consider "gay" or any connectation of it an insult. So insult away. And no, I am not mannish (okay, some of my habits are mannish, but overall, no. ). It's just that sometimes, that's the worse thing a stupid person can think of to call someone.

A friend of mine, in context long forgotten by me, was once called an "Irish piece of crap" by some uncreative soul. Her response was "Better an Irish crap than an All-American dipshit."
Well done, I thought.

I don't consider "gay" or any connectation of it an insult.
I don't consider that an insult either. I usually reply with "how original" or "is that the best you can do, twizzlefuck?"
I was called the N-word by a *black* lady at Hechinger's once. I was watering the plants outside one night, when her wheelchair got caught on it. Rather than simply wait for me to move it, she got stuck...and then called me a "dumb N-word." Now, since I'm white, I was soooo tempted to tell her "are you *sure* you want to go there?" but I had to be nice, since the boss was around. I wasn't about to stoop to her level, since I'm not like that. I mean, if you're going to insult me, at least get the epithet right. But then again, racists aren't usually rocket scientists...
What's a 'wop' and a 'mick"? I know spic, gut, n***** and honky and that's about it.

geez. Not only have I never been called any of those things, I've never even heard most of those words said out loud. That sort of behavior isn't tolerated publicly where I live.
My parents, on the other hand, are two of the biggest damn biggots I've ever met, and I'm honestly ashamed to be related to them. They make snarky comments about oriental drivers, muslims anywhere, sikhs (sp?), etc. The other day we're following a driving school car, and the poor woman must have been on her first lesson, because she was driving PAINFULLY slowly. I feel bad for her, because I recently went through the same thing myself (got my license on Sept 19th!) My father, seeing that the woman was wearing... err... one of those head-covering things muslim women wear (dunno the name, sorry) says, "Oh great, it's not only a female student driver, it's a (get this) Somalian one! F*ing Somalians!"
Woman wasn't even remotely dark-skinned, and she was *probably* Algerian or something (we have a very large Algerian population in the area where I live). I was just glad that my kids weren't in the car with us. The last time my parents BOTH started making VERY LOUD, RUDE comments about another driver (with their windows open, mind you), I told them that if they didn't shut their gobs, my children and I were exiting the vehicle and making our way home immediately. Honestly! Like I want my kids to learn that crap! Stupid narrow-minded twits.

Wop means "With Out Papers."
I imagine Mick is a play on last names, maybe?
I think I may have the same problem. I have relatives who are very racist, and use the N word without the slightest provocation or embarassment.
Half the time, they don't even mean anything bad by it. They are just THAT ignorant. I do not want my child around that, and I see some arguments in my near future.

Michael and Patrick were and still are, very popular traditional first names in ireland (saints' names, y'see?). Mick and Pat are the stereotypical Irishmen in jokes, and to be honest, among Irish men of a certain age, Mick or Micko, and Pat ARE the most common names.

I get called "N****r" a lot, and I am one of the whitest people I know.
The best one was a group of three people (all white) looking for Final Fantasy XII. They asked how much it was, and I told them the price... $49.99... exactly the same as everywhere else... and I get "Damn, you N***** charge a LOT fo yo games!" and the left.
I'm still kind of confused over that one.

I think they were aping rappers; there are a worrying amount of white kids speaking ebonics where I live.
I've been called a "white bitch" by a black girl who barged into me; while technically correct, it's a bit off seeing as I didn't do anything to her, and if I'd called her a "black bitch" she probably would have been really angry, and so would everyone around us. Plus there was that time at the pizza place when this black woman called my collegue "honky". I didn't know then what that means, and neither did he, so it lost some fire. I still don't know.
As for off race insults, I've been called a "Patty" before; I'm not Irish. I've also had someone say sarcastically after I spoke "Oh la-di-da, posho!" Er, I am not posh, I'm middle class and proud!

Wop means "With Out Papers."
While this is probably very true it has, at some point, become a derogatory term for those of Italian heritage.
I would never even dream of trying to guess someone's heritage by looking at them. I'd say that it's fairly impossible. My hubby, for example, is a white guy with medium brown hair and blue eyes. You'd never guess he's 3/4 Apache Indian just by looking at him.

Verging :ot: but for some reason my best girlfriend and I got called this ALL through high school, and we could never figure it out. We weren't physically affectionate toward each other, and neither one of us had a stereotypical "lesbian" appearance. The only thing we could think of was that for all of high school we not only hung around together a lot, but got along really well and didn't participate in the typical girly backstabbing and fighting. I guess "gets along well" = "homosexual" to some.
Years after graduation, I still had at least one person telling me he was surprised I'd gotten married (my best friend got married too, btw) because he thought I was "that way."
People. They gotta have something to talk about.

LOL somehow I get mistaken for Mexican a lot. My maiden name didn't really point to any particular country, and I'd heard guesses ranging from German to every flavor of Eastern European, with German being correct...but once I got married and had a name that sounded more Hispanic, I've been called every name under the sun by white folks thinking I'm one of our less than legal friends from the south, as well as soundly cussed by Spanish speakers for not speaking Spanish.
The irony of course is that I'm your typical fat white girl...darkish hair, but blue-green eyes, and skin so pale it's nearly translucent. There's absolutely nothing to suggest that I'm anything other than Euromutt. Even more ironic is that my "Hispanic sounding" married name is Romanian or Hungarian in origin. :-)

I actually want to get one of the full-face ones for winter. It goes down to -40 and below where I live, and damn if that doesn't sting on the face! Balaclavas have never wanted to stay in place for me, and there's nothing worse than having soggy yarn freeze to your face. At least a hijaab gives you a bit of breathing room :) (besides, my ex-husband told me I looked sexy when I had to wear one of the head-part only ones for a play I was in).

I've never had racist comments toward me, but I think this is most likely because no one can tell where I'm from. :) I have brown hair, DARK brown eyes, and pasty pale white skin. I've been asked if I am Canadian, and people occasionally think I am Asian or Hispanic. As it happens, I am mostly German and English, with enough Native American in me to have dark eyes, which looks sort of freaky with my pale skin. I guess it's kind of good to be a mutt if no one can make racist comments at you. :)
...actually, I am sort of surprised and amazed that in 8 years in fast food and almost 2 in retail that no one has said anything like that to me. Most of the rudeness aimed at me tends to be "Go to school and get a REAL job." Ok buddy, shut your piehole, I have a degree thankyouverymuchokbyebye. :)

I actually own one- the whole outfit from head to toe. My Aunt was stationed in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm and brought me one home. I have worn it on rare occasion for the novelty of it and it isn't really that uncomfortable. It's not wonderful but I'd rather wear it than say a corset.
It is not something I'd want to wear every day though. I'd get annoyed with having my face covered all the time and do you know how hard it is to keep your hair from straying out into sight?
I just got called a dirty honkey and a nazi kraut on myspace a few minutes ago because I rejected a guy's pickup line. No, it wasn't because he was Native American, it's because I find random pick-up lines on myspace very....creepy. I'm sorry some people just cannot handle rejection. Amazing how "damn baby u's fine holla at me!" will quickly transition into "You dirty honkey, stupid nazi kraut, go join the KKK with all your other hitler friends...white power!" as soon as you say "Sorry, not interested". Hmm?
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black......(I hope Omarossa isn't around right now to see this).
Yes, just because I have two german flags on my myspace, I salute Hitler every day and on the weekends, I don my white hood and go by the name "Imperial Wizard Blasphemy"............
Sorry, that really upsets me. Not being called a honkey, that just makes me laugh. Not being called a kraut, that just makes me laugh harder. Not being called a hitler hailer, that just makes me roll my eyes........but the whole irony in the situation itself.

I'm never mistaken for anything though once when I mentioned I had native american in my heritage, an actual native american squinted at me and said they could tell. For the record, I'm EXTREMELY pale with dark brown hair (natural blond highlighted in the front) and blue eyes. I've got a definate Scottish build though...which makes sense, cause my family's got enough Scottish in them to choke a haggis.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Scottish build I'm referring to, its the long torso and short stumpy legs. As a McDonald, a Ross, and a Fergusson, I'm 'legal' enough to wear three different tartans :)
My older sister, however, is always mistaken for Spanish. She's been asked before (while working in retail) how she's liking this country even though she talks with no accent whatsoever. She has people who start rattling off to her in Spanish constantly, and while she does speak enough to know what's being said in most cases if its slowly, someone rattling off at top speed just makes her stare in stupification.

The closest I've had to some-one throwing a racial epitaph at me is a guy called in, I gave my normal opening spiel and the only sentence I heard was "God d*mnit! Not ANOTHER black woman" *click*
As you can see here here http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v407/ladydouji/black%20hair/DSCF0579.jpg

I'm 'legal' enough to wear three different tartansYes, but you'd look silly trying it...
I remember a friend at work pulling this stunt........and yes, it makes me a horrible person for finding it hilarious at the time......but I will tell it anyway.
When I was temporarily transfered to another department, I met several other people who were also temporarily transfered. We were all alone compared to the evil, gossipy, rude, crude crowd of people in that department, mostly made up of older people with nothing to do but gossip, tattle, and try and wreck a younger employee's future.
Two boys and I got along great. I never dated either one of them or anything, but we've still remained friends to this day.......that and another girl who is also still one of my good friends, but she wasn't there that night.
So we have satellite radio at work. One night it was that god awful slow country music. Anyone seen the commercial for "country's got heart?" cds? Kinda like that. Anyways, my two guy friends were singing along to it, not obnoxiously or anything, but trying to keep spirits high, because there isn't much you can do when you're stuck listening to country music 3-4 nights out of the week.
There was this woman from Russia whose family had moved to the states a few years back and all of them worked at the factory. She was a large woman with big poofy hair and the meanest, most evil looking face you'd ever imagine. If looks could kill...............one day she shot me the most evil glare in the world....and all I was doing was putting on chapstick. I swear, her eyes were shooting daggers at me. She was extremely unpleasant.
Well, she happened to be working next to the boys and I was kiddy corner to them. She all of a sudden screams "STOP THAT SINGING NOW!" and pounded her fist against the counter. Both boys kind of jump back and are like "wtf?!"
Ok, now, I promise, this is the racial slur part we finally get to...
When we got to go out to our break, I started up a conversation I never should have. "Wow, that bitch really told you two off!"
One guy then sneers, "Damn dirty commie bitch should just shut the fuck up and go back home."
The other one says, "Maybe we should keep doing it and see if she'll yell at us again, then we can get her fired for being psycho!"
Yes, I know, I'm a terrible person, but I thought the commie part was hilarious. I actually agreed with both of them.
Unfortunately, she still works there, and I get a lovely icy glare every time she sees me in the hallways.

Honey, where I'm from, Bitch is not an insult. I have worked a long time for that title, so don't use it lightly.
Seriously, I haven't been called any kind of racial slurs that I can remember.
Well, there was my grandfather (R.I.P). He called me a n****r lover once, which was true, I am married to a black man.
My family is very racist, except my dad and stepmom. My mother has disowned me twice for just dating a black man. They cannot understand how I could be married to a black man, they says I was raised better than that?!? I am glad I am no longer associated with them.
It took 10 years but my mother has come around, I think. When she seen my kids she changed her tune. I always used to piss her off by telling her that she is the reason that I met my husband, she pushed me into the military.
She now tells me that she is very proud of me. She said not many woman can raise one kid let alone 5 of them. She said that I am doing an excellent job. I take this very personal and to heart coming from my mom.

I used to get "druggie" all the time. My eyes are always (always) dark. Kinda like I've been punched, or I never sleep. Neither is true, I'm just that way. (Racoon like).
Another guy once called me the 6'-2" Jew. I have no Jewish heritage and I'm acutually Catholic. Figure that one out...
I used to get Redneck all the time. One person said I should paint KKK across the hood of my truck. Why? Because I owned something with a Confederate flag on it. My grandmother is from Virginia and I had relatives fight for the confederacy. I don't flaunt it or anything, but that was the only reason I had it.

Not racial, but I tend to get the following far too often:
"fag", "queer", "fucking homo".
All because I have a lisp. Bloody hell, it's annoying.
Especially with my 6-month anniversary with my girlfriend coming up in 2 weeks.
((No offense to any here who may be homosexual, but it's just not for me, for one, and for two, it brings back bad memories from middle school.))
And not just that, but one (female) co-worker at a prior job (selling vacuums door-to-door), the first question she asked me was "Are you gay?". Seriously, she had just found out my name 15 minutes prior.
My hubby, for example, is a white guy with medium brown hair and blue eyes. You'd never guess he's 3/4 Apache Indian just by looking at him.

Drunk was optional, but solved a lot of problems for the press gangs. It also meant that you could start operating the ship as soon as the hangover passed, rather than waiting for the bones to knit.
And you thought today's managers were bad...

That's because people are idiots, and can't come up with better 'insults.' Don't believe me? Go to *any* car site, and if someone doesn't like someone else's car, it's never because said car is a riced-out POS, but always because they're "gay" or various other sexual reasons. It's rather pathetic, actually.
As for me, well, I have German, Irish, and Norwegian roots. Trust me, it's an interesting combination if you piss me off  Getting info on my family tree has been difficult--my Norwegian last name is like "Smith" over here. As such, info has been slow in coming, and most of those who would know are dead. I do know that I'm one of the last direct descendants of the original family that still has the same last name.

No one ever correctly guesses my heritage, from looking at me. Given that my hair hasn't been its natural color in about 6 years, I guess that might have something to do with it, but still. (I'm Dutch, Native American [Potawatomi] and English, if you're curious). My brother is the kicker though, because the Dutch is obvious (he's incredibly blonde, fair-skinned and blue-eyed) but no one ever guesses Native American. :)

"Come on, hurry up, nigga!"
I had to snicker to myself when his white friend followed.

I do know that I'm one of the last direct descendants of the original family that still has the same last name.
what last name is that then? Olsen? :p
and yeah, car sites suck like that, i weep for the people remotly interested in cars, if you don't go mainstream, a bunch of kids in honda civics will call you gay.

Nah, it means "eastern house."
People like that are *exactly* why I don't go to many car sites. What bugs me about those people, is they claim to be "original" by doing stupid things to their cars...yet can't come up with some new insults. Not too surprising, since many of their "one-of-a-kind" cars also look pretty much the same

actually, Miller could be as much German as British (although I think Muller is more common, there are Miller families of German descent). I'd probably have trouble with her accent, to be honest, because I even have difficulty with most areas of Quebec (I'm franco-Ontarian). I used to have a roommate from Northern Quebec, and I could never understand a word she said when she'd get on the phone to her friends.
To explain the diet coke & mini wheats, Diet Coke is my beverage of choice, and I like snacking on dry mini wheats.

My mother is a bigot... I blame alot of it on the fact that she's never had to interact with people of other ethnic groups. She was born, raised, married and has lived in middle Wisconsin for all of her 60 years. She was adopted at birth and after her adoptive parents died, she got on the internet looking for her birth mother and possibly siblings (she ended up being an only child). She had one woman contact her as a possible sibling. It sounded very likely, but this woman said she was native American (American Indian). My mom freaked out and didn't even reply to this woman. She was like, "How dare she think I could have a sister who is an Indian". She ranted some more about the "dirty indians" and has never brought up looking for her birth family which is a shame for me and my siblings. We'd love to know a bit more about our medical history. All we know about mom is that she's nuts!!

I do have black hair, pale olive skin and slightly almond shaped eyes. I get mistaken for part Asian every now and then. But it is really the Italian side of me.
Beyond having the little kids I babysat back when I was a teen ask me if I was a honky nobody has ever done that to me.
Larry and I had a neat little talk about racist crap like that. He was only 7 so I pointed out nicely that calling me a 'honky' because I'm white was just as mean as as me calling him a 'gut' because he's Indian. Then we went back to playing kickball.

My ex-husband was educated in English (went to English grammar school) but I went to French, so in order for our son to be enrolled into an English school, we had to provide his father's school records to PROVE he was half-English. The kicker? My ex-husband's mom is French LOL
Yes, the Quebec government is ridiculously backward. I'm sorry, but it should be my choice whether I want my children educated in French or in English, and my son can't handle the immersion program that the French school board offers. My daughter, however, does go to French school.
So let me see if I can wrap my brain-like substance around the Quebecian school system. The French schools teach everything in French and English is a foreign language class and English schools are vice versa. Correct? Or not even close?

To be fair, I suspect that some of them aren't using it in a bad way. It's just what black people used to be called by the majority of the people, including the blacks. (It's the "C" part of the NAACP.) Maine has a more relaxed pace than most of the country. While people in D.C. and the big universities think that renaming a problem (either a perceived one or a real one) will fix the problem, and much of the rest of the country will follow suit, people from Maine know better, and don't see the point in really trying to learn the euphamism du jour.
(Can "African-American" please die a mercifully swift death soon? It's embarrasing when your politicians ask the French* how the African-Americans in France feel about something.)
