It seems last week I was having a lot of mess ups. And not small ones either. Ones that could actually get me fired for carelessness.

Anyway, this really nice old man wanted to write a personal check. Okay, I get his players card, pull up his account. He has four hundred dollars available. He makes out his check, I check his ID and all is well. I pay him, he leaves.

I look closer at the check. The check wasn't signed!

I wanted to pass out right there. So I start freaking. My co-workers told me to take the check and try to find him. Sure... Because in a crowded casino I can find someone just like that. Right.

So I go to the supervisor with this I-seriously-fudged-up grin (Y'know the smile of: I-did-something-bad-and-you're-gonna-kill-me-so-I'm-grinning-like-a-psycho-to-advert-your murdering-me-on-the-spot smile) much like this: :D But with bug eyes.

The Supervising Manager see's my smile and is like:
SM: Okay, Anakah what did you do this time?

me: Well...

I just showed her the check and she told me to try and see if I could find him outside. I grabbed the check and a pen and ran. If you've read one of my earlier posts--its damn near impossible for me to remember faces. I'm just looking at their money.

So, we all know I didn't find him. Crapola!

So, I went back in, trying not to have a heart attack. I mean I practically gave him a hundred dollars with an unsigned check! How dumb can I be!?

I get back to the frontline when one of my co-workers suggest I call front desk to see if maybe he's staying in the hotel and maybe I can leave a message at him room. Seemed like promising idea so I gave it a try. YAY! He was a hotel guest in our casino. I thought my problems would be over.

So, I called and left a message. I really suck at leaving messages so it went something like this: Hi, this is Anakah from the front cage in ____ casino. If at all possible could you please come back to the ____ cage? You uh forgot to sign your check. Um, thanks.

I panicked in the message. I'm sure he thought I was some weirdo. Thus why he never showed. So I was screwed.

I'm sure when I go into work tomorrow I'm going to get yelled at or written up for the first time.

Would you believe that two banks once colluded to cash a rent cheque of mine that wasn't signed???? I was so horrified that they would just cash this cheque with no signature on it that I phoned both banks to complain, and they both blamed it on the other bank! Ugh. Far as I'm concerned, nobody should have touched the damn thing without a signature on it. Yes, I wrote the cheque, but how the hell do they know that unless it has my signature on it????

Edited to add: I'm really sorry this happened to you. It's simply an oversight, but unfortunately, working with money, we're not often allowed to make mistakes, are we? :( I hope there are no serious repercussions for you *hug*

Several months ago, I was counting out my till at the end of my shift one day, and noticed that the total of my checks was off. I looked back through them, and found one that the written total was different form the actual total of the transaction. (By less than a dollar, likely just a few cents).

Our Bookkeeper happened to be down on the floor, standing near me, and I start cussing myself out, stating that was the second time in just a few days I had let that happen. She looked over the check, and said, "Well, that's not good, but I'm more concerned about the fact that it's not signed."

Me:  :ashamed:

Fortunately, the Customer came back and signed the check when the Bookkeeper called them! :salute:

Once upon a time, I got in the mail a check I had written out and sent to the electric company.

Why did they mail it back?

I had only signed HALF of my last name. Don't ask me how I managed that; my last name is such that you either write all or nothing.

Maybe I was distracted by a blue car or something...
