...and I said no. So that must mean that I'm not desperate. Nor that I hate my present job that much (if at all).
The offer I turned down was tech support for company that sells all kinds of cable-tv, internet etc. services. There would have been a lot more work (no browsing CS while on the clock ;) ), a hell lot more monitoring and about the same level of pay. So no thank you.
But the best part is that I was completely honest in the interview. I told them things like "the customer isn't always right" and they still wanted me! Hah!*

*it just occured to me that maybe they're just extremely short of staff

But the best part is that I was completely honest in the interview. I told them things like "the customer isn't always right" and they still wanted me!

Actually in our latest round of company-mandated customer service classes (run by a motivational speaker who used to be employed by our company for management training purposes until he started his own business, but he still works closely with us), we were told "The customer is NOT always right. If anyone asks if the customer is always right, that's a trick question. But the customer is always the CUSTOMER, and it's your responsibility to do anything within policy to keep the customer happy."

I did not, nor did anyone else in my training class, ask about where to draw the line between customers and thieves/scammers. Luckily, we don't have many people who flirt with that line, even knowing how much power regular employees really have in making them happy. Most people are clearly one or the other.
