No pics yet, instead of looking like poop they look like ugly and brown rats with small tails. :)

But, some were born with dew claws and we just had to take care of them.

I will post pics but right now they're not attractive. They still look like ugly rats. When they grow some fur and start to look reddish I'll post pics.

Also, their dew claws are healing nicely, thank god (that was a major guilt trip).

Aw. Why can't they have dew claws? Or is it just easier if they don't? Pablo has only one, and it's a pain in the ass to clip the nail. And he's tiny. Don't know if he was only born with one or if he was injured as a puppy (before Ex got him); he does have a bump where it would be.

The dew claws can be a hazard. They're not natural and can easily be caught on something / break of when they get older (and cause much more damage). It's easier to remove them when the puppies are a few days old.

Where do they come from if they're not natural?

Where do they come from if they're not natural?

True, but it still can be a serious hinderance and cause injury later on.

What are dew claws?

They're claws that sometimes grow near the back of the paw. It is usually very week and can easily get torn off if it gets caught on something causing serious injury. It's best to remove them under a controlled environment before they're fully developed.

I like the one on the bottom with the tongue sticking out :p Do they have names yet?

What are dew claws?

Analagous to the thumb. But useless. They also don't touch the ground through normal walking around so the nail tends to get rather sharp (which probably helps contribute to their tendency to get caught on things and cause injury, I would imagine - in Pablo's case, it's the one that likes to get caught on sweaters and such ).

Ah, I didn't update, sorry about that. :)

So, now the owner of the sire is being a real see-you-next-Tuesday. She is refusing to sign the paperwork unless we give her a free puppy (which was never part of the bargain since the breeder was co-owning the sire at the time).

My wife is gaining some ammunition but this lady has screwed so many people that we're done with it (remember the begging for donations to go to Eukanuba email? This is the same person).

They all move around *A LOT* so I'm sure she wasn't like that for long. The boy (who is HUGE) keeps escaping out of the smaller crate (but that's in a larger crate so he's still safe). Quite often now I find some of them outside the smaller crate and snoozing around it.

Their eyes are open now, too. We might start doing individual pictures in the next week.

As for the other litter, Athena (red band) went to her new home last night in Orlando. The new owners were over for a few hours, Kiri was wonderful to them and they loved the puppies.

Aw, yay happy puppy homes!

There's a live webcam of a litter of shiba inu (?) puppies (Cute Overload had it up last week, and The Daily Puppy has it on the side of their page). I've watched it a little bit and they are all over the place. Last time I looked at it, the box was empty cuz they had all crawled out and were out of range of the camera. :)

Oh my goodness!!!!!! So cute! What breed are they?

Finnish Spitz.
http://www.akc.org/breeds/finnish_spitz/

Small (20-25 pounds), friendly, and not high energy (but not a couch potato either) - they make a great pet. People always tend to think they're a fox, too.

Edit: We had a major jailbreak last night. Ginger pushed the two exercise pens apart so she could get out (and had an "accident"). Three of the puppies got out also (they didn't go far but I was in a total panic because I could only count 4 puppies, not 5. I almost woke my wife up at 2AM to help me find her, thinking she fell down the stairs, she was under a bed etc..

She was wrapped up the blanket in there, safe and snug. :)

draggar
12-26-2008, 11:06 PM
Honestly, they don't shed that much. Yes, they do blow their coat 1-3 times a year (like all dogs do) but that's about it. As long as you keep up with the brushing (1-2 times a week) you should be fine with it.

And yes, that is Artemis (shepherd puppy playing with them) in the video, to.

These puppies will be 8 weeks next week. :)

My wife has decided that we won't do this too often from now on, one litter every couple of years maybe (for now).
