Well, I wasn't sure if this should go in here or in check it out. I don't have a link...sooo...

Anyhow, apparently Google was down this morning. I found out when my mom called me from work.

Mom: "Daughter! I can't GOOGLE!"

Me: "Um, what mom?"

Mom: "Google's dooooown! What do I do? I can't--I can't get my gmail and I need to search for something."

Me: "Mom...there's this thing...called Yahoo...You can search with that too."

Mom: "Oh! I forgot other search engines existed. *hand over phone* Guys, look it up on Yahoo!"

Man in the room: "It's not the same! Why the hell isn't google working?! It's google! It shouldn't be allowed to go down!"

Me:

Goodness, if a room full of Navy/Marine brass couldn't figure that out...  My mother is actually very smart, but she can stress herself out. I didn't know she had a gmail account either. Didn't think she could use it for work; she has a spiffy .mil e-mail account for that.

It goes to show how many people rely on google. I was annoyed by the outage too, since my home page is my igoogle. And every damn time I needed to search for something, I would type in google.com and nothing would happen.

Ah, I wondered if it was just my computer being super slow this morning.

I didn't remember it being down yesterday. I can imagine having to get off my ass to actually look in reference books for answers. Or the databases the library spends thousands on.

Wikipedia is the next site I go to.

I know there are other search engines, but google is the best. I'm addicted, and love that google can be used as a verb.

You know...it's great that this thread exists...I tried to google something for a customer yesterday and when google didn't load, I thought it was our work computers being shitty again (sometimes our connection gets REALLY awful).

Considering our main sales entry system was up, I thought it was odd that google wasn't working...

Yay! I'm not (completely) crazy! But wow. I can't believe google was actually DOWN!

I love my .mil account. No spam AT ALL. But I'd never use it for anything outside of work. I still check my .edu, which I only use for school and other official emails that aren't at work. Yahoo for everything else. But yea, since I can't access my .mil account outside of work, I need something else when I'm home.

Google was only down for certain people/areas. I think Google released a statement for it.

In saying that, it's why you shouldn't rely on Google for EVERYTHING, a reason not to be on their Cloud or whatever...
