The Parking office employee involved in this post:
Missy *not her real name*: Parking office clerk

Visitor Parking was blocked off for a reserved event beginning at 7 p.m. tonight around 9:30 this morning due to the reserved events that were scheduled for the first shift, my shift, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The open sign was on when I got to work at 7 a.m. this morning. So I allowed anyone to park until 1) the full sign was turned on & 2) I placed the big white sign stating Visitor Parking is closed for a special event in front of the Visitor Parking booth.

Around 1 p.m. Missy comes down to the Visitor Parking booth to let me know that she will come down to the booth around 6 p.m., & to let the 2nd shift attendant know this. Then she bitched at me about all the students who were parked in the garage at that time. She wanted me to do the following the next time Visitor Parking is closed for an event for the 2nd shift, which is from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. or for an event beginning after 6p.m.

I have to ask the person if they are a student
If the person is a student, then I have to tell them there is a big event later on
today & that they need to be out by a certain time
If they cannot be out by that certain time, then they cannot park

She did not say that I had to tell visitors & staff *if the staff member cannot find a parking spot in the faculty/staff garage* this, only students.

So around 2 p.m. after she had already left I went inside the Visitor Parking garage, & I counted 3 student parking permits. There are 55 spots in Visitor Parking.

Andrea *not her real name* is the Director of Parking & Transportation. She is Missy's direct boss.

If I were a student, and I was told, "You can't park if you're going to be here past Time X, but you can park if you're gone before then," my response would be,

"Sure! I'll be gone long before then." I'd park and not worry about it from there. Once they let you park, you're parked.

I love how the parking office comes up with cute little ways to show discrimination yet not call it discrimination. Didn't they pull the same thing with students on motorcycles?

Yes,
That is correct. And because of the *so called problem* with a particular student motorcyclist, I tell every motorcyclist who parks in Visitor Parking to 1) pay at the Parking office, 2) let them know that you parked your motorcycle in Visitor parking, & 3) ask about parking permits for motorcyclists at that office.
