View Full Version : What the?

So I'm in Ace Hardware trying to pick up some bolts that are coated with something rust proof. I'd like to ask someone who knows more about this sort of thing than I do. I see a young man wearing an Ace's apron, so I walk over to him and ask him.

So here's this nice guy trying to help me choose what I need, and here somes this old fart, butting in and yelling at the kid. He yells, and I quote, "What, you can't help me? I've been waiting for someone to help me, and you only came over here so you could talk to the pretty girl! Stop being so damn lazy and get over here!"

:wtf: First off, I'm freaking old enough to be the clerk's mom. Second, the guy didn't "come out to talk to me." I went and got him. And third, how dare this guy come over and start shit with someone I'm talking to for no reason.

Kid starts to tell the guy he'll be right with him and I just cut him off, turn on the old fart, and snap at him "You need help, go ask for it like I JUST DID. How dare you come over her and interrupt us!" Man I was steamed.

Old fart mutters something about how I'm not so pretty after all. Was that some attempt to crush me or something? For :censored: 's sake!!!!

I leaned over at him...he was about my size...and said "Look, Pops, you need shuffle on right %&*#ing now. Don't you be coming over here starting shit you can't finish. How $%&*ing dare you! "

So off he shuffles, cursing and muttering. The nerve! Clerk is staring at me like I just grew a second head and a tail. I guess he didn't expect that from a chick. I hope I didn't get him trouble or anything, but I couldn't believe that guy. I looked at the clerk and said, "Look, I have to put up with crap all day, I am not about to put up with more from someone like him on my own time."

Man! I guarantee that whole debacle would not have happened had I been male. I guess since I don't have a willy there's no way I could be actually, you know, PURCHASING something in a hardware store. Clearly, I was there to play a scene out of The Graduate with the clerk, right? :pissed:

I was surprised that the guy didn't scream about how "kids today don't respect their elders..."

I have great respect for my elders. But they need to at least try and conduct themselves in a manner worthy of respect, you know? Grrrr.....

A lot of elderly men are (still) sexist, and that's just not going to change.

Plus, the elderly need to quit expecting respect just because they are old. Just because they are old is no excuse to act as rude and selfish and childish as they do. Once they act respectable, they'll get respect.

Disclaimer: I understand that people of all ages can be selfish, childish, and extremely rude. I just find that the elderly are usually the ones who DEMAND respect even though 3/4 of the time, the way they act most of the time, they don't deserve any.
