  • Parents, I need your party games!

Specifically, any that involve a CD player, lots of children and one or two props.

I'm currently making up a list of games for the school holidays when I go in on Thursday. All of them are centred around a music theme at this stage.

So far I have the following two games:

Limbo: Not sure if this one is even allowed anymore due to the whole putting strain on your back type thing. I'm thinking of modifying it with the rule that the kids can go through any other way without hands or butt on floor.

Musical Hot Potato: Game is easy. Ball gets passed around while the music is playing. When the music stops, the person holding the ball sits down and are "out." Play continues until one person has the ball left.

I'm also tossing up the idea of playing Silent Ball as well for a while (with/out the "broken bottles" variant ie one hand, one leg) to help them realise that you can actually "hear" silence.

Any other ideas? The slot I have goes for an hour or so. After that we have a 30 minute break, then the kids are coming inside for another activity with me.

Oooh I like that one. That could even be done inside if it's raining. Might run that past bossman tomorrow.

Also, a bit more information that I forgot to add in my first post:

-The kids will be between 4-12.
-I'll have no more than 15 kids at a time.

Thank you for reminding me of something a friend of mine did.

We were playing with our buddy class (in some Aussie schools, it's not uncommon for older classes to pair up with younger classes to do various activities) who were Year 1's. So we ended up playing duck, duck goose.

A friend of mine did the variation of "Flower, flower, cat's piss." He got chased around the circle twice and pinged in the balls for that one .

Last summer we tried to play duck, duck, goose in a lake. A group of grown adults. Hilarity ensued.

A game we used to play in dance class was called "Machines." One child would start out with a simple movement (staying in one place--like bending/straightening knees or opening/closing arms) and others would add on.
