  • Something big is going down! and bonus story!

I manage a game store at a mall. Today I was sitting on computer browsing CS and looked up to see 2 cops walk by holding shotguns. I look outside and there is 4 cop cars, 2 fire trucks, and a fire chief truck. I am sitting here going is going on??? Will keep you guys updated on this as it progresses.

Bonus story which I hope is unrelated

Drunk guy and GF come in followed closely by mall security. They come up to the counter.

    Me: Hey, hows it going?
DG: *hic* I want..... shome internets time!
    Me:
SG: (security guard) You guys (DG and GF) have to get out, you were throwing chips all over the place and yelling at the 7-11 guy.
DG: *pointing at me and the SG* Geeks, Geeks!!! (said in very loud voice)
    SG: *Escorts them out*

    Important edit!

A friend just told me that the cops have barricaded an area of the mall and are apparently trying to catch someone. This is a mall full of children and they have shotguns!

Lol cops are the people I'd trust the most with shotguns around my children lol. I'd be more worried about who they're trying to catch.

The biggest issue with shotguns is they are a lot less accurate than a handgun or rifle (speaking from experience here). I would rather that no one brought any guns into a place with lots of children.

They evacuated the mall last year when there was a sniper holed up in one of the buildings but not for this one I guess.

Maybe they're using "non-lethal"/riot control rounds. One can only hope.

I just talked to Mall security and apparently those werent just shotguns we saw, they were AR17 assault rifles! Apparently this person was wanted Canada wide and they suspected that he was here so went all out.

It depends on how far they're shooting with them though. In a mall full of people (I mean really, is stray rounds hitting an adult NOT tragic?) the shotgun has the benefit of not penetrating walls and stuff... a rifle or handgun bullet could pass straight through walls and hit more stuff. Also the accuracy thing isn't such an issue at closer ranges, the idea that firing one shotgun shot into a room will turn everyone inside into hamburger is more of a movie thing than real world. At 10-15 yards the spread of shot is still under a few inches.

If they evacuated a wing of the mall the shotguns are probably the safest choice.

Of course you say later that they had assault rifles... LOL
