  • Guy throws a tantrum because he's not the center of the universe

A lady in my department needed a raincheck so I proceeded to the service desk where they are all out of rainchecks and needed to get the supervisor to print one. Then they needed to type in the price. So I had to scurry back to my department to check the price, then called the desk to give it to them. Now I needed to go back up and get the raincheck-this poor lady had waited long enough. As I'm heading up, the greeter said "This gentlemen here needs your help..." I said, "Sorry, I'll be right back, I have to get something for a customer I'm helping." When I got back he had already found what he needed and was leaving, but left a bunch of items sitting on the floor. The greeter later told me that he had thrown a fit when I walked away. He said that it was a good thing that the guy didn't have a gun on him, that's how upset he was (!!). Jesus, man, WTF??

What kind of a comment is that? This is a sucky customer and sucky coworker story.

You totally pegged it with the title, Despina. It probably never entered his head, despite your explanation, that another customer could exist that's you know, ahead of him. Sharing is a lost art.

I read it as the greeter saying it was a good idea the SC didn't have a gun, based on the fit thrown by the SC.

If the SC had made a comment, definitely drop the banhammer on him, but if it's the greeter making the comment, no reason to ban over it.
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

              And acting your age.

The mantra of "the customer is always right" has led to a society full of self-centered, self-important, foul-mannered spoiled brats who cannot conceive of the fact that there are other people in the universe besides themselves. They don't understand why they have to wait for others to finish before they can start, they can't comprehend that they may, in fact, be completely wrong, and they flip out over every minor inconvenience. It makes you wonder how they act when something really bad happens; do they fly to pieces so fast that people get hit by the shrapnel?

And, of course, we bear the brunt of it.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

Dorothy (best c-store coworker ever) and I used to hum/whistle/sing a little tune together when we encountered them: "There's no one in the world but you, there's no one in the world but you...." A lilting little melody went along with it. Sing, you say? Yeah, they're so self-centered that the idea of mere counter peons openly mocking them never crosses their minds. Not once in ten years did we get called on it.
