So I've been thinking of starting a cosplay blog.
I want to post lots of interesting things- sure, I'll have the usual tutorials and work in progress stuff, but I also want to write lots of editorial-type articles- a series of cosplay etiquette pieces, issues relevant to the geek/cosplay community, and things like that.
Now, on the downside I'm not sure how much readership I'll actually get- I'm a plus sized cosplayer, and I do pretty much all original characters. (Mind you, my OCs have as much if not more effort put into them as many established character-based costumes)
Does a blog featuring editorial-type writeups as well as the usual cosplay stuff sound like something people would be interested in?
The other thing on my mind is what to call it- Most cosplay blogs are called some variation of "whoever cosplay", such as Kamui cosplay, Cullen Cosplay, and others. (Those are some cosplayers I follow on facebook)
I'm considering going with "Mannahatta Cosplay"- Mannahatta is the original name for the NYC area before it was anglicized as Manhattan. Even though I'm not an NY'er, the name makes sense because a lot of my cosplay projects are inspired by NYC skyscrapers- I've got One Penn Plaza, am very far into San Remo of Central Park West, am starting on One Astor Plaza, and have a bunch of others I want to turn into personified characters. So I'd love an NYC reference in the name, but I don't want to use the modern name Manhattan, lest people think I'm a NYer and get all pissy when they find out I'm not. I do wonder if it's okay to use the pre-anglicized place name though, or if that would count as some form of Native appropriation. (If so, I certainly would pick something else! I know using a tribe name would not be cool, don't know what the stand is on place names)
So is Mannahatta okay, or if not, anyone have any ideas?
