  • Can this week be any more f*cked up?!

The ONE week that I absolutely cannot work mornings (dogwalking job this week), I get scheduled for mornings. I was able to tell ASM that I had to leave no later than 11AM; I'm walking the pooch a tad later than normal, but he's fine with that (well housetrained).

I've been going through the foodstamp application process, and in their infinite wisdom (HAHAHAHAHA) the agency has decided to schedule the phone interview for 9AM tomorrow morning. While I did tell the intake interviewer last week that I would be available in the mornings, that was before I realized how screwed up my work schedule was. They expect me to be by the phone between 9 and 10, and my application could be denied if I'm not there when they say I should be (I love how the state assistance agencies assume people have the time to waste just sitting by the phone). I can probably appeal, but that would mean going through the whole intake mess again, and mom thinks I can just call out tomorrow (she expects me to) or give DTA my cell phone--as their number is blocked by caller ID, I have NO way of knowing who's calling--and just take a break when they call...like that's gonna be possible.

Normally I would, but...I'm the only cashier from 7-11. I did call the caseworker right away when I got the letter and explained my need to reschedule, but I won't know whether they got the message in time until they call (which would be tomorrow when I won't be around). So I don't know if I should go in anyway, or call out.

Call out. That's too important to miss.

She will probably get the message too late. They can usually work around this, but you have to catch them in time. Don't call out entirely and lose a day's pay. Explain the situation and tell the boss you have to step away at 9:00. Have your phone on you. These phone appointments only last 5 minutes. This is what I did, and my boss was understanding.

I did call the caseworker and give her my cell number (for some reason the only phone number listed in the letter was for the home number even though I gave both on the application), no call came and there was nothing on either voicemail even confirming my rescheduling request. I'll try calling tomorrow morning (according to the website, there's nobody there now).

I kinda don't want to have to haul my ass down to the offices, but if that would actually get some sort of results that's what I'll do.
