    Two fold post here...

    First:

I'm in an intro to theater class this semester for my arts credit, and we're to go to two plays on campus this semester... "Other Desert Cities" and "trading paint".

Our homework for Tuesday's class is to think of things a W.A.S.P and his wife might of worn in 2004, being ultra conservative, and republican, in Palm Springs.

Also music that would fit both the era and climate.

    Second:

For my intro to communications study I have to give two speechs, and was wondering what you guys thought of the concepts? (WITHOUT delving into fratching).

Informative speech : How to easily make a Dungeons and Dragons character.

Persuasive speech : How video games are medically helpful to people.
It is by snark alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of the coffee bean that thoughts acquire 'tude, the lips acquire mouthiness, the glares become a warning.

For the persuasive speech I might suggest researching the effect of video games on post-operative pediatric patients in respect to total recovery time and and amount of narcotic pain relief required.
At the conclusion of an Irish wedding, the priest said "Everybody please hug the person who has made your life worth living. The bartender was nearly crushed to death.

Your choice of speeches sounds good.

As for what your Palm Springs conservatives might have worn, I'd need to know both their age range and whether they lived in Palm Springs or were tourists....and if the latter, where they were from.

      Still A Customer."

For the video game speech check out the webshow extra credits on penny arcade

        http://www.penny-arcade.com/patv/show/extra-credits

They talk a lot about how games can be positive and used for education.

For the informative speech it's a good topic but if you are talking about writing a character in general and not just specifically a D&D character read the character creation parts of the dresden files RPG

Me: I expect competence from my coworkers.

Speaking of Penny Arcade, they also run the charity "Child's Play", which delivers video games & systems to kids in Children's Hospitals every year. Try contacting them - maybe they've done some studies, and I'd bet that they've been contacted by hospitals/families with anecdotes about the results.

I'm too lazy to find the links, but I know there are multiple studies regarding video games and post op peds patients, which is why I'd suggested it. From personal experience, I know my kids are much happier and take far fewer does of narcotics when they're glued to their video games after surgery. The studies back up my personal observations.

I've heard of that study. Music also does that to some people.

As for the speech choices, they are good. Just make sure that when you do said informative speech, that you have information to back it up (ie have a powerpoint going with a character building). Alternately, even get the class to build a character
